    1. [MO-AR-WRV] Hey, howdy!
    2. Vonda Sheets
    3. Wal, now-- It's a beautiful day in the Ozarks! Yesterday, 9 Apr, it was nearly 90 degrees...and a little more than a week ago, we had a 20 degree night... The dogwoods are a-bloomin', as are the redbud and "sarvicebairy" trees. The sycamores are finally buddin' out, and jonquils, wild violets and crocuses are jumpin' all over. My daughter pulled my beautiful 2-yr-old hyacinth out of the ground a couple of weeks ago--she was excited because it was the only thing blooming or showing life in that flower bed, plants thrive if I neglect them. So now I have no hyacinth--this was the first plant I'd ever had that lived past it's initial year in my possession. Last year, my son cut the flowerhead to bring it in for me. I think I'll just throw some wildflower seed out there. At least the hibiscus promise to be gorgeous this year. Those, I didn't plant, came with the house. Ingrid and I are off to do some shopping at the thrift stores in Springfield today for "The League: Taney County Justice," the Bald Knobber play to be held at Outlaw Roundup 19 May. Have a full line-up of musicians both before and after the play. I am very likely going to do some donation-soliciting, too. I've managed to cut corners on quite a few items, but the sound system for both the musicians and the play is going to be a huge thing. Since I'm more deaf than not, I'm a stickler for folks being able to hear... We are still looking for a few men for the play. <sigh> Can't believe how many men turn down a chance to ride horses, shoot guns, and hang people. Seems they want to put the condition on of who they get to hang...I tell them dummies, but they only agree with the adjective and not the noun. Ingrid and I have not yet done the can-can out on "The Strip", Hwy 76 in Branson, but that may happen next week, as we scramble for finals before the first cast meeting. I've got so many e's from recent posts in my "inbox" to put in my database and make sure I have the Pettys and their associated families right. Y'all are doing good work! Gots to git. Have a GREAT day! Vonda Wilson Sheets ListMom for MOTaney and MO-AR-WRV http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~moarwrv/ http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~gregvonda/

    3. Dear David, I also have a Erie county, Pa 1913 directory and one coming that is of Mass 1922. I am presently working on putting up a new site too. One thing I will tell you is that no one noticed there was not a link for Century, Ok. I happen to wake up over the weekend and noticed it myself. It was rather a "OH, NO" type thing. 3. Dear Victoria, Thank you very much for your response to my query. I should have mentioned that my Great Grandfather, Frank CLAIR, left his family in Barry Co, MO, and departed for OK alone, or at least as far as we know, he was alone. I checked your directory site previously and was very glad to see it. I'm hoping someday to get some information about Peoria in the 1890's. 3. Pama, Remember that Pulaska was their NIECE, not their child. Its interesting...you say they had a son named Wiley? Remember the bit about the marriage of Wiley Nash and Pulaski Simmons in Crawford County, MO? That was in 1850, but what if (and this is just hypothetical) Wiley is the brother to George? And he is father to Pulaska? And George's son Wiley was named after George's brother? Something to ponder... 3. Hi everyone. I sent this the other day and I am not sure that it went through. Alot of my emails to these lists seem to not go through. Here is what I have found with regard to my mystery Pulaska Jane Nash-Brown. In the 1880 Linden Township, Christian County census living with George and Elizabeth Nash, was their 6 year old niece Jane Nash. This girl's age is correct for my Pulaska Jane Nash. George and Elizabeth's children in this census were: William, James M., Sarah, Lotta, and America. In the 1900 census for Sparta, Christian County, my John and Pulsaka Brown are living in house 244 with their children at the time. (And I thought they were in Kansas then!) Living next door in house 243 is America Nash-Johns (youngest child of George's in 1880) with her husband Alonzo Johns. So that could indicate a relationship of some sort. It also says in this census that Pulaska and John's oldest child (Bertha) was born in Kentucky in 1894. This is 2 or 3 years after they were married in Missouri! But John Brown was born, as were his parents it says, in Kentucky. It also says that Pulaska's father was born in Tenn and her mother in Kentucky. Does anyone have this George and Elizabeth Nash in their Nash tree? :-) Kim

    3. Hey, howdy.... It's a beautiful day in the Ozarks! The dogwoods and redbud aren't quite blooming everywhere just yet, but the weather has turned into spring with muggy days and nights--it's time to take the extra blanket off the bed. <BG> Well, Ingrid and I have not, I repeat, NOT grabbed any men off the street to come be in the Bald Knobber Re-enactment. We've slowly but surely gotten most of the parts for the play filled. Just a reminder (and an update for those of you who are new), "Law Day 2001: Outlaw Roundup" is taking place 19 May in Shadow Rock Park at Forsyth, MO, starting at 9 am. The play will begin about 1:30 or so that afternoon. This thing is going to be so big--not to mention fun (if I can just get all the details lined out, and start my door-knockin' campaign for donations...LOL) As if I don't have enough to do, all of a sudden, I got hot on some stuff, especially in the Jennings/Casey families of the Forsyth area. If you get out your MO map, and look for Taney County, you'll note a large creek coming into Taney from Christian County, called Bull Creek. Seems the majority of the Bald Knobbers, in a line running North-South along Bull Creek down to AR--I've not determined the width just yet, but parts of Swan Creek would be in this "belt"--the majority of the Bald Knobbers lived in that region. Not all, and not all folks who lived there were BK. But the statistics seem pretty amazin'. Then we got some folks--mostly BK descendants, but not all, and not a bunch of folks--who don't seem to think we should have a play on the BK. I guess they don't see it as a tribute to rough times that happened in the White River Valley; some of them think we're being disrespectful. Since we did our best to remain neutral on the side-takin' (you wouldn't believe how many folks do still take sides), and show both sides of the story, those doubtin' Thomases are just going to have to see the play to believe it. There's always a naysayer in every crowd of "yee-haws!" I suppose. Greg has added some stuff concerning Outlaw Roundup to our business website. Go to http://www.copper-turtle.com and click on White River Valley. There's not a lot there, but it's more than I've had time to do. The server was down some last week, but seems to doing fine now. Well... I ain't got any enlightenin' stuff, really, and I'm all dressed up to go out door-knocking...you know, women can wear cowboy boots with just about anything, too. LOL Have A Great Week! Oh, and if you don't find sitcoms particularly interesting--I'm not much of a TV watcher myself--ever so often, you get a jewel comin' through. One episode of "3rd Rock From the Sun" has Dick receiving an invitation from a Solomon family to a family reunion. Seems that Dick's supposed father (remember, he's an alien) broke ties with the family. When asked why he wants to go to the reunion, he said, "Life here is not just where we're going, but where we come from." That is so true! I have TONS of Johnsons married to my McDaniels, Hiles, and Shipmans, but no idea really how they are related to each other, if at all. Some of the names I am looking for include: Henry Johnson married to Hannah Shipman (daughter of James H and Hannah Shipman) Thier children: Sarah m Anderson Solomon m Mary Ann Shipman (daughter of Isaac Shipman and Elizabeth Johnson--Isaac being brother to Solomon's mother! Is Elizabeth related to Henry also?) Their children: Hannah Elizabeth Johnson m John Riley Bird Tempy Cordelia Johnson m Gibson Isaac Henry Johnson m Minnie (know her last name?) Sollie M. Johnson m Ota V. McDaniel (My gg-aunt, also descended from James and Hannah Shipman!!!) Mary Jane Hiles (daughter of Andrew Hiles and Catherine Walker) m J. Monroe Johnson. Thier children: David Newton Johnson m Lucy J. (last name?) Lew F. Johnson m Myrtle (last name?) Temperance Hiles (sister of Mary Jane) m James J. Johnson (is he related to J. Monroe Johnson?). Thier children: James Allen Johnson m Blanche (last name?) Ola A. Johnson Then there is Nancy McDaniel (dauther of Samuel R. McDaniel and Elizabeth Walker) who m Eli Johnson in Howell County, MO. Have also seen a number of marriage records bearing the name James Johnson as the minister or justice of the peace. Is this the James Johnson married to Tempy Hiles? Or is he related to these other Johnsons at all? Thanks! :-) Kim

    3. I have another "unconnected" Johnson from Christian County-William P. Johnson married Grace Irene West 22 Dec 1901 in Christian County. Grace is the daughter of Thomas West and Mary A. Reese. William and Grace Johnson went to North Radley, Crwford County KS, where her mother was visiting when she passed away in 1914. Her obituary was written by a W.P. Johnson, Reverend. Anybody have these folks in their info? My connection is Grace's sister, Tennessee Missouri West, my gg-grandmother, who was born at Wilson Creek, MO in 1854. 3. Alice, I don't have anything on your particular Laura but do have some Ganns who married into the Johnson family in Christian County. I have one male Gann unidentified and two females. The father was Uriah Gann and mother was Sarah Vandergriff (spelling varies) she was daughter of Garret and Nancy (Floyd) Vandergriff . Sarah was born ca 1810 in Tennessee. This probably won't do a thing for you but if you have any info on my unidentified Ganns or Garret and Nancy Vandergriff would love to know about it. Thanks.

    1. [MO-AR-WRV] Looking for info on my family
    2. Alice
    3. Hello, I am looking for info on these surnames : Vandergrift or any other spelling of the name. Related surnames : Dobbs, Dooley. My family lived in DeValls Bluff, Ar from about 1880 until at least 1920. In researching my ancestors I have learned that my g grandfather is J.Thomas Vandergrift born about 1865 in Tn. He married Laura A Johnson {nee Dobbs} she was the widow if James Johnson, in Oct 1887. She was born about 1869 in Mo. They had several children, names unknown except for my grandfather Thomas Fred born in 1897/98. In the 1920 census Laura was still alive & living in DeValls Bluff with my grandfather & 2 Dooley grandchildren, names are Joseph & {Emma} ? Does anyone know anything about these families ? I have been told that they were {River People} & lived near the white river. Many thanks to all that respond. Sincerly, Alice
