The new home for the mo-ar-wrv list is ready to go. In a few minutes, I'll send out personal invitations to the subscribers of this list who wish to join the new group will be able to do so. I can not add members directly. It should be a link you can click that will let you 'accept' the invitation to join the new group. You may need to check your spam folder as I can't say when such will be delivered. If you don't find an invitation in your email you may also go to this site - https://groups.io/g/MO-AR-WHITE-RIV-VALLEY and select Join Group. Folks may continue to post to this list through tomorrow 3/1. Tim Stowell
As of now, the mo-ar-wrv list has 147 subscribers. In light of Rootsweb's decision to close this list and every other list on March 2nd, with the current administrator's blessing, a friend and I have set up a new home for this list. In my next email, I'll send you further information regarding this and how to join the new home for this list. Tim Stowell Chattanooga

Many of the USGENWEB sites hosted on RootsWeb are back online. Rootsweb tried sending an email to all the owners, but a lot of them bounced back. In short, state and county pages are back; others will come back in the future "by request." The MO websites are listed here: http://www.mogenweb.org/ Use the dropdown box to select a MO county. All the websites (including outside MO) that have returned so far are listed here: https://www.rootsweb.com/sites/siteDirectory For those that would like to download their websites contents from RootsWeb, we will publish instructions on how to do it the week of July 10th. For reference. The source of the White River is near Boston in Madison County AR. It flows westward for awhile then turns north through a series of lakes through Washington, Benton and Carroll County AR. Then it goes in to Missouri passing through the counties of Barry, Stone and Taney. The rebuilt riverfront developement in Branson MO is on the White River. It comes into AR in Boone County. It marks most of the county line between Marion and Baxter County. It then flows into Baxter, then marks the county line between Stone and Izard counties. Then the county line between Stone and Independence counties the crossing Independence County to Jackson County. It turns south at Newport and marks the county line between White and Woodruff counties. Then part of the county line between Prairie and Woodruff counties. Then crossing Prairie county into Monroe. County. It then marks the county line between Arkansas and Monroe counties, then Arkansas and Phillips counties and then Arkansas and Desha counties. Finally if flows in to the Mississippi River in Desha County about 12 miles north of where the Arkansas River enters the MS. At one point the Arkansas and White Rivers are less then 2 miles apart. In the Great Flood of 1927, they flowed into the Mississippi as one river. This may have played a part in the breaching of the levee at Greenville MS downriver.
My great grandfather William C. Phillips died in White County on the White River. That is all I know about that. He was born in TN in 1853. He came with his parents to Oregon County MO about 1855. He married Mary Elizabeth Mills in Oregon County. She died in 1886 on the way to AR. They had 6 children who all ended up in Oklahoma. He stayed in AR and married Martha Wallace it 1894. His marriage was registered in Jackson Co AR, but he was married in Paroquet, Independence county AR. It is said that they had 2 sons Hosey & Luther. I can find no further on this family. Gene

My gr-great grandfather, Willis Wilshire Magness (son of Joseph & Patsy ) died in March 1859 (age 29 years) in Marion Cunty AR along the White River. According to a story in the Turnbo Tales, he died at the home of his older brother, Samuel, who died 4 days earlier. Does anyone know what was going on in the WRV area about this time? Was there an outbreak of a contagious disease? Could it have been related to early Civil War unrest? I have checked lists of newspapers online and don't find any that go back that far in this area of MO or AR. Does anyone have any other ideas? Thanks , Donna
