JONES (Democrat), Senator from the Twenty-first District; born in Kennett, Mo., March 12, 1901; educated in the public schools of Kennett and the University of Missouri, receiving his B. J. degree in 1923. He married Miss ETHEL ROCKHOLT in Memphis, Tenn., August 2, 1923, and they have three children, BETTY ANNE, PAUL, Jr., AND NELL. After serving as lieutenant and as captain of Company E, 140th Infantry, Missouri National Guard, he resigned in 1929. He is an editor and publisher and resides at Kennett, which city he served as mayor from April, 1933, until January, 1935, when he resigned to become Representative from Dunklin County in the 58th General Assembly. He is a former District Governor of Lions International; former President of the Southeast Missouri Press Association, and is a member of the First Christian Church of Kennett. Elected to the State Senate in 1936, he served in the 59th General Assembly as chairman of the Committee on Retrenchment, Reform, Abolition and Consolidation of Boards, Bureaus and Commissions and as chairman of the Committee on Bills Agreed To and Finally Passed. In the 60th General Assembly he was chairman of the following committees: Penal Institutions and Reform Schools, and Bills Agreed To and Finally Passed, and a member of the following other committees: County Courts, Justice of the Peace and Township Organization; Fees and Salaries; Roads and Highways; University and School of Mines; Normal Schools, Teachers Colleges and Libraries: Social Security and Pensions.
