Howard COMBS, who was the county court clerk at the time Carroll County 1st adopted township organization. Big creek is the only stream of any size in Combs Twsp. Stephen PARKER was 1st permanent settler in twsp in 1824. He held a warrant for the SE quarter of section 20. He sold the land to George WARD, but Mr WARD did not take possession. So, Mr PARKER moved to & improved the land, after which Mr WARD demanded, and was given, possession. William HILL located in section 4 in 1835. Robert GENTRY arrived in 1833. Reuben STATON, Peter BALL, William SINNARD, Hardin SIMPSON, Peter BOLEY & James WALDEN arrived in 1835 and 1836. In section 19, lands were settled by: William STATON, 1839 C.G. MERRELL, 1836 Rudolph THOMAS, 1836 Stephen HANCOCK, 1837 George ADKINS, 1838 David RUSSELL, 1839 John CURL, 1st sheriff of Carroll County, improved the old farm of Thomas GOODSON (on the State Road) in 1834.
