ROBERTS (Democrat), Senator from the Eighteenth District; born March 22, 1907, in Wheeler, Texas. He married Miss CATHERINE L. BONE of Fredonia, Kans., May 19, 1926, and they reside at Diamond, Mo., where he is editor and publisher of the Diamond News. He is a former railroad telegraph operator and station agent. Active in Democratic politics for many years and especially prominent in Young Democratic Club organization work, he served as President of the Young Democratic Club of Newton County and of the Seventh Congressional District Young Democratic Clubs. In 1937, he was unanimously elected President of the Young Democratic Clubs of Missouri. He is a Scottish Rite Mason and a member of the Missouri Press Association and of the National Editorial Association. Elected to the House of Representatives in 1934 as Representative from Newton County, he was re-elected in 1936, acting as chairman of the Committee on Bills Agreed to and Finally Passed in the 59th General Assembly. In 1938, he was elected to the State Senate, serving in the 60th General Assembly as chairman of the Committee on Retrenchment, Reform, Abolition and Consolidation of Boards, Bureaus and Commissions, and as a member of the following other committees: Elections; Redistricting and Constitutional Amendments; Eleemosynary Institutions; Fish and Game; County Courts, Justice of the Peace and Township Organization; Fees and Salaries; Printing.
