He is an attorney, with offices at 809 Wainwright building and resides at 5846 Roosevelt Place, St. Louis. Active in Democratic politics in the 27th Ward of St. Louis for several years, he was appointed Provisional City Court Judge in St. Louis, and was elected to the House of Representatives in 1934 and re-elected in 1936 and 1938. He acted as Chairman of the Committee on Building and Loan in the 59th General Assembly, and in the 60th General Assembly as Chairman of the Committee on Transportation Other Than Railroads, as well as serving as a member of the following other committees: Judiciary (ranking member); Rules and Joint Rules; Private Corporations; Elections; Municipal Corporations; Revision.
