OFFICIAL MANUAL STATE OF MISSOURI 1939-1940 Legislative Departments House of Representatives Page 104 ROSCOE CONKLING SUMMERS (Democrat), Representative from Cass County; born in Harrisonville, Mo., January 16, 1895; educated in the grade and high schools of Harrisonville and the University of Missouri. On November 16, 1926, in Boonville, Mo., he married Miss ELIZABETH COLLIER, who then was County Superintendent of Schools of Cass County. They have two daughters, ELIZABETH ANN and BARBARA JANE. He resides in Harrisonville, where he is engaged in the practice of law. Enlisted in U.S. Army in 1917, he served two years during the World War. A Past Commander of Newton Dudley Post No. 53, American Legion, at Pleasant Hill, Mo., he was appointed a member of the State Legislative Committee of that organization for 1939. After beginning the practice of law in the office of his father, the late W.D. SUMMERS , in Harrisonville, he moved to Pleasant Hill in 1926, where he served as Municipal Court Judge and later as City Attorney. He returned with his family to the home town of Harrisonville in March 1938. Is a member of Delta Tau Delta Fraternity, the Young Democratic Club of Cass County, the Missouri and Cass County Bar Associations, and the Christian Church, of which he is now Sunday School Superintendent. Elected in 1936 to the House of Representatives, he was re-elected in 1938, serving in the 60th General Assembly as Chairman of the Committee on Pensions, and as a member of the following committees: Ways and Means; Judiciary; Social Security and Old Age Assistance; Township Organization.
