Was born February 3, 1884, in St. Louis, Mo.; educated in the grade and public schools there and St. Louis University. On August 16, 1905, in St. Louis, he married Miss CLARA WALWADA MAHIEGER, a graduate of Sacred Heart Academy of Maryville, Mo. They have two children, JOHN ALBERT, graduate of Chaminade College of Clayton, Mo., and RUTH, educated at Notre Dame Academy in Belleville, Ill., and Fontbonne College of Clayton. Judge Sartorius is a son of JOHN SARTORIUS, the first Democratic Senator to be elected from the 30th District. He served as Deputy Circuit Clerk from 1902 to 1907, and instituted Juvenile Court, being its first clerk. In 1925, he ran for Comptroller of the city of St. Louis with William Igoe as a candidate for Mayor. In 1930, he was a candidate for Prosecuting Attorney of St. Louis and led the city ticket. In 1934, he was elected Judge of the Eighth Circuit for a term of six years. He was director and manager of the America, the last Democratic daily newspaper in St. Louis, president of the Jefferson Club, member of Goller Alumni, St. Louis University Alumni, Mt. Pleasant Welfare Association, Fathers' Club of Fontbonne College and Chaminade College, the St. Louis and Missouri Bar Associations, the Optimists' Club, St. Louis Lodge No. 9, B.P.O.E., Lawyers Association, Hilcrest Country Club, St. Louis Chamber of Commerce, St. Louis High club, Franklin Dramatic Club, Married Men's Club of St. Louis, Hampton Business Men's Association, and the Edgewater Club.
