He is an attorney, is married and resides in St. Louis, Mo. First elected to the State Senate in 1912, he was re-elected thereafter to the present time. He was elected President Pro Tem in the 57th General Assembly. In the 59th General Assembly, he acted as chairman of the Committee on Roads and Highways and of the Committee on Clerical Force. In the 60th General Assembly he was chairman of the Clerical Committee, and a member of the following other committees: Judiciary; Appropriations; Municipal Corporations; Fees and Salaries; Retrenchment, Reform, Abolition and Consolidation of Boards, Bureaus and Commissions; Social Security and Pensions. CLINTON T. WATSON (Democrat), Senator from the Thirty-second District; born in Troy, Mo., July 3, 1888; educated in the public schools of Troy. Married Miss JOSIE PHELPS in St. Louis, Mo., January 4, 1900. They have two daughters, LILLIAN ADA, the wife of CHARLES WILSON, a druggist in St. Louis, and ELEANOR, the wife of LeROY GARDNER, of Houston, Texas; also two grandchildren, SHIRLEY ANN WILSON and LeROY GARDNER, ,JR. A real estate dealer and building contractor, he is connected with James & Company, General Electric distributors, 4144 Lindell Boulevard, St. Louis, and resides at 1542 South Theresa Avenue in that city. Born of a Democratic family, he has been active in politics all his life, often serving as an election official and as Secretary of the 16th Ward Democratic Club in St. Louis. He first held public office when elected to the State Senate at a special election in April 1939, succeeding Senator John McKeon, who died during the session of the 60th General Assembly. He served as chairman of the Committee on Naval Affairs and Permament Seat of Government in the 60th General Assembly, and also as a member of the following other committees: Penal Institutions and Reform Schools; Education; Railroads and Internal Improvements; Building and Loan; Bills Agreed to and Finally Passed.
