(Republican), Representative from Jasper County, First District; born April 9, 1897, in Schell City, Mo.; educated in the public schools of Carthage, Mo., and the University of Missouri. He was married to Miss MAURINE CUNNINGHAM of Caruthersville, Mo., on January 29, 1921, in Clayton, Mo., and they have two daughters, MARIAN and NANCY. He resides at 1402 South Garrison Avenue, Carthage, Mo., and is in the insurance business there, with offices at 147 East Third Street. Enlisting April 30, 1917, in Company F, 4th Infantry, Missouri National Guard, he was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in April 1918, and served in France with the 35th Division during the World War. Active in the Missouri National Guard after the World War, he served as a Major in the 140th Infantry until 1926. Starting his legislative career in 1909 as a Page in the Missouri Senate, he was Reading Clerk in the House of Representatives in 1919, Assistant Secretary of the Senate in 1921, temporary Secretary of the Senate, 1923 and 1925, Reading Clerk and Executive Assistant to the Chief Clerk of the House, 1927; Reading Clerk of the House part of the session of 1929. He also was Chief Clerk, Missouri Insurance Department, 1921-1925. His first elective office came in 1938, when he was elected to the House of Representatives, serving in the 60th General Assembly as a member of the following committees: Agriculture; Appropriations; Insurance; Military Affairs; Mines and Mining; Roads and Highways.
