OFFICIAL MANUAL STATE OF MISSOURI 1939-1940 Legislative Department Members House of Representatives Page 91 JOHN JACK (Democrat), Representative from Dent County; born December 28, 1885; educated in the public schools of Dent County and the Will Mayfield School of Marble Hill, Mo. He married Miss EFFIE SHULTS of Jack, Mo., December 5, 1909, and they took into their home and reared to maturity Mrs. Jack's three orphan nieces, ALBERTA, BEATRICE and WAUNITA SHULTS. He resides on a farm near Salem, Mo. A Master Farmer of the Class of 1929, he specializes in breeding Jersey cattle and White Leghorn chickens. He is a charter member of the Missouri Jersey Cattle Club, of which he was a director; of the Dent County Jersey Breeders' Association and of the Dent County Jersey Bull Association, in both of which he served as chairman. He has won many prizes with entries in county, state and national dairy and poultry shows. Successful in farm activities, he always has co-operated with the Missouri College of Agriculture. He has served seventeen years on the Extension Service Committee in Dent County, has been a member of the Dent County Highway Commission since its creation, and also is a member of the State Agricultural Land Use Policy Committee. He also is a member of the Masonic Lodge. An active ordained minister since 1921, he has participated in all phases of church work. His families on both sides long have been active in Democratic politics but he was a candidate for the first time in 1936, when he was elected to the House of Representatives. Re-elected in 1938, he served in the 60th General Assembly as chairman of the Committee on Bills Agreed To and Finally Passed, and was a member of the following other committees: Agriculture; Education; Flood Control and Soil Conservation; Fish and Game; Roads and Highways.
