PURD HAYS (Republican), Representative from Christian County; born December 10, 1865, in Greene County, Mo.; educated in the public schools and high school at Republic, Mo. In April, 1897, he was married at Ozark, Mo., to Miss D. KELTNER of Christian County, and they have four children, GERALD P., GLADYS, FLO and CARL E., of whom the first and last two named are living. After graduating from high school, he studied law in offices of attorneys at Republic and Springfield, and was admitted to the Missouri bar, June 21, 1895. He resides at Ozark, Mo., where he is engaged in the practice of law. He was elected to the House of Representatives from Christian County in 1896, serving in the 39th General Assembly. From 1902 until 1906, he served two terms as Prosecuting Attorney of Christian County, and then served eight years as City Attorney of Ozark. Re-elected to the House of Representatives in 1938, he served on the following committees of the 60th General Assembly: Social Security and Old Age Assistance; Judiciary; Roads and Highways; Wills and Probate; State Library.
