September 24, 1870; educated in the public schools of Osage and Maries Counties and the Vichy, Mo., Normal and Business Institute. He is a retired farmer and contractor and resides at Belle, Mo. On October 3, 1893, he married Miss AUGUSTA F. BACKNES at Dixon, Mo., and they have seven children, Mrs. O.A. LLOYD, Mirs. J.L. BIRDSONG, and WARREN WALLACE of Belle, Mrs. RUBY GLECK of Long Beach, Calif., and WILBER, WADE and WINDELL, all of Los Angeles, Calif. A member of a family which has been active in affairs of the Democratic party for more than a century, he long has been identified with Democratic politics and served one term as County Treasurer of Maries County and four terms as Mayor of Belle. Is a member of the Church of Christ and of the A.F.& A.M. at Belle. Elected to the House of Representatives of the 59th General Assembly, he successfully sought re-election in 1938 and served in the 60th General Assembly as chairman of the Printing Committee, and as a member of the following other committees: Agriculture; Claims, Local Bills and Miscellaneous Business' Criminal Justice; Fish and Game; Roads and Highways.
