    3. 29 Jan 2001 MO-Abstracts Read-Only List ```````````````````````````````````````````````````````` Source: "The History of Dentistry in Missouri" Surnames: McKELLOPS, POPE, JONES, PARKER, SILVERS, EASTON, FROST, ALLEN, GOWER, McCUEN, ROBINSON (pages 37-38) HENRY JAMES BYRON McKELLOPS (1825-1906) Henry was b 31 Aug 1825 at Saline, NY Henry was s/o James McKELLOPS James d before Henry was a teenager Henry moved to St Louis in 1840 with his mother & sister Henry studied at MO Univ from 1842-1844 Henry had a close friend, Charles A. POPE. M.D. (Charles was the Dean of Old St Louis Medical College) Henry studied medicine, off & on, from 1846-ca 1853 In St Louis, Charles also made close friends with: Jonathan JONES (proprietor of Jones Commercial College) and John M. PARKER (City Registrar of St Louis) Henry worked for John M. PARKER for a time Henry's bro-in-law was George SILVERS (a dentist in St Louis) Henry earned D.D.S. from Ohio College of Dental Surgery In 1856, Robert ARTHUR, D.D.S. was living in Philadelphia, PA Robert was working w/ gold as a teeth filling material Henry traveled to Philadelphia to learn from Robert (in 1856) Henry was Capt of the St Louis Cadets at age 18 In 1846, Henry led the Morgan Riflemen in their 6 months of service in the Mexican War . . . under command of Col Alton R. EASTON In 1850's, Henry joined the newly formed St Louis National Guards Henry was later Assistant Adjutant General of the 1st Brigade Volunteers, 1st Div of MO. As such, he marched across MO w/Gen George D.M. FROST to put invasion of Bushwackers Henry's home was used during War Between the States to store arms & munitions. He was arrested and subsequently ordered out of St Louis Henry journeyed to CA and then Europe after he had to leave St Louis Henry practiced dentistry in London & Paris from 1863-1865 Henry ret'd to St Louis after the war, but made more trips to Europe John ALLEN, D.D.S. lived in Cincinnati ca 1870 Henry m/Miss Annie GOWER, of TN, on 4 Apl 1849 Annie & Henry had 8 children, 5 male & 3 female Henry d 23 Apl 1901 (**My Note: Yes, the death dates conflict.) ------------------ (page 38) E. McCUEN (____-1873) Dr McCUEN was 1 of the founders of MO State Dental Assoc 18 of Dr McCUEN's 20 yrs of dental practice were in Louisiana, MO Dr McCUEN had partnership w/A.C. ROBINSON, of Louisiana, MO for a short time late in life Dr McCUEN d 16 Oct 1873 in Louisiana, MO
