Term expires December 31, 1942 CHARLES THOMAS HAYS, Hannibal (Democrat); born in New London, Ralls County, Missouri, May 9, 1869. Educated in the public schools, Bethany College, and the University of Missouri. A\Was married May 25, 1897, to Miss SARAH MARGARET BRASHEARS of New London. Admitted to the bar March 3, 1893, at New London, he practiced his profession there, meanwhile serving as City Attorney and as Mayor, until 1907, when he moved with his family to Hannibal. There he engaged in the practice of law and also served as Mayor in 1911 and 1912. He was appaointed by Governor Gardner, April 14, 1919, Judge of the Tenth Circuit, and was elected to an unexpired term ending December 31, 1922. He was re-elected for a full term in 1922 and again in 1928, in all instances without an opponent in either the primaries or the general election. Elected Judge of the Supreme Court November 8, 1932, for a term of ten years from January 1, 1933, to December 31, 1942. He retired as Chief Justice of the Missouri Supreme Court, Division No. 1, August 8, 1938, being succeeded by Judge Ernest M. Tipton. Norma
