Following his graduation from college, he was principal of the high school at Crocker, Mo., and then spent a number of years as salesman for the International Harvester Company. He is now operating a stock farm near Halltown. Is a member of the Masonic and Odd Fellow Lodges. First sought public office in 1938 and was elected to the House of Representatives in the 60th General Assembly, where he served on the following committees: Agriculture; Education; State Teachers Colleges; Railroads and Internal Improvements; Eleemosynary Institutions; Flood Control and Soil Conservation. O. B. WHITAKER (Republican), Representative from Hickory County; born July 20, 1869, in Weableau, Mo.; educated in the public schools and Weaubleau Christian College. He was married July 20, 1893, to Miss ANNETTA R. BOYLES in Humansville, Mo. Taught in the public schools; was president of Weaubleau College, of Lincoln College in Kansas and Union College in Indiana; was president of the State Bank of Beverly, Kas., vice-president of the National Bank of Lincoln, Kas, and is a writer of considerable note, being the author of several books. He was a member of the 47th, 49th, 50th, 51st, 52nd, 55th, 56th, 57th and 58th General Assemblies, being Republican nominee for Speaker of the House of the 52nd and 60th General Assemblies and was floor leader of th4 52nd Assembly. In 1924, he was Republican nominee for Congress in the 7th Congressional District of Missouri, and in 1936 was Republican nominee for Congress in the 2nd district. Again elected to the House of Representatives in 1938, he served in the 60th General Assembly as a member of the following committees: Agriculture; Banks and Banking; Children's Code; Education; Flood Control and Soil Conservation; Wills and Probate.
