Born January 6, 1896, in St. Louis, a son of Judge WALTER BOND DOUGLAS, formerly of Brunswick, and FRANCESCA KIMBALL DOUGLAS, of St. Louis. He married Miss ELIZABETH LUMAGHI of St. Louis on August 5, 1939. Educated in the public schools of St. Louis, and graduated from Washington University Law School, St. Louis, in 1921, with degree of LL.B. Served as a private with Battery A of the Missouri National Guard, 1913-1917; saw Mexican border service at Loredo, Texas, in 1916; was a member of the First Officers' Training Camp at Fort Riley, Kan., in May 1917, and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant and assigned to 342nd Field Artillery, 89th (Missouri-Kansas) Division at Camp Funstan, Kan.; promoted to First Lieutenant, December 31, 1917; saw active service with A.E.F. in St. Mihiel sector; served with Army of Occupation and was mustered out of service in August, 1919. Admitted to the bar July 12, 1917, and engaged in general practice of law in St. Louis from 1921 to 1935. Lecturer on Medical Jurisprudence, Washington University Medical School, 192901937. Elected Judge of the Circuit Court of the City of St. Louis in 1934 for a six-year term, begining January 7, 1935, and served until appointed by Governor Lloyd C. Stark to the Supreme Court, April 3, 1937. Member Alpha Tau Omega and Phi Delta Phi legal fraternities (National President 1931-33); Board of Trustees, Missouri Historical Society, Jefferson Memorial, St. Louis; Charles H. Duncker Post No. 157 of the American Legion; Roy Sone Post No. 1003 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars; Military Order of the World War; Sons of the Revolution; Lawyers' Association, Eighth Judicial Circuit; and of the St. Louis, Missouri State, and American Bar Associations. Nominated to succeed himself as Judge of the Missouri Supreme Court, at the Democratic primary, August 2, 1938, he was elected November 8, 1938, for the unexpired portion of the term ending December 31, 1944.
