GRAFTON (Democrat), Representative from Jasper County, Third District; born at Meadville, Mo., June 25, 1876; educated in the public schools of Missouri and Kansas. He was married, October 11, 1895, at Southwest City, Mo., to Miss ELLA V. RAY. Newspaperman, printer, musician, writer and composer, he resides at Joplin. He is the last living member of Company G, Second Regimental Band, Missouri National Guard, with which he served during the Spanish-American War, 1896-1898. He served as a 4-minute man during the World War. Active in Democratic politics since 1896, he has served as committeeman in the 12th Precinct, City of Joplin, since 1912, and attended state conventions at St. Joseph, Excelsior Springs, Springfield and Joplin. Entering the newspaper business in 1889, at the age of 17, he edited and published a Democratic weekly paper at Southwest City, Mo.; in 1907 and 1908, was managing editor of the Southwest American of Fort Smith, Ark.; city editor, Joplin Tribune, 1911-1913; editor and publisher, Joplin Tribune, 1913-1924, and now employed on the Joplin Globe.
