He engaged in the practice of medicine in Cedar County twenty-five years; was Past President of the Vernon-Cedar Medical Society, and resided at Stockton, Mo. Long active in Republican politics, he had served as Chairman of the Cedar County Republican Central Committee, 16th Senatorial District Chairman; was a member of the Republican State Committee in 1930 and served as coroner and health officer of Cedar County from 1915 to 1932. Reed, a native Howard Countain and a graduate of the University of Missouri in 1908 with an M. S. in 1910, was one of seven employees of the U. S. Dept. of Agriculture who received a Distinguished Service award on May 15 in Washington, D. C. The award was given Dr. Reed "for leadership in developing breeding systems and programs that have resulted in improving the nation's dairy cattle, and for achievements that have improved the efficiency of the dairy industry in the United States." p75/76: The Society has purchased, from Mrs. Rose Powell of Moberly, the manuscript "daybook" or journal of Hugh McCanne, pioneer Missourian who made the journey from near Jacksonville, MO., to California in 1850 in search of gold. The entries in the journal date from April 28 to August 11, 1850, and are largely made up of descriptions of the route, the water and grass available, and the hardships involved. Hugh McCanne was born in 1805 and came, with his wife Mariah, to Randolph County, Missouri, in a covered wagon in 1836. There they established a home and reared eight children. p77: Fifty-four acres of land on the Missouri River overlooking St. Charles, once owned and occupied by Frederick Bates, has been sold for the purpose of subdivision. Her school days were spent in the public schools here, being enrolled in the business department of the Carrollton High School at the time of her illness. To know her was to be her friend, and her bright smile and congenial nature will be a great loss to the home she made happy. Some time ago she fell ill with pneumonia. Other complications and she rapidly grew worse until her death at ten o'clock Sunday morning. Following a brief service at the home Tuesday at 2:30, conducted by Rev. G.L. McVey in 1976 (copy of same can be found in a library in Sedalia, MO) The village of Buncombe was once located in section 16 of Bowling Green Twp in Pettis County. Its origins date to ca 1830-1835. An 1868 Business Guide lists Buncombe as the site of a Post Office. Some of the early settlers had arrived there from Buncombe County, NC. Two of those were Joel W. THOMAS & James A. GLENN. Also from NC were Judge J.W. BEEMAN, Milas W. BARNARD, William FERGUSON, Archibald LEVELACE & James HELMAN (?) HOLMAN. Buncombe is listed, on some maps, as an existing town in 1845, 1865 & 1869 and is shown as being on the Jefferson City-Georgetown Road (evidentally also called the Independence Road).

Jones, Guardian; NMH 30 Jun 1869 Pitney, William -- age 13y, plead guilty to grand larceny, sentenced to 3 month's in county jail, son of Capt. Pitney; NMH 16 Jun 1869 Rutherford, Andrew J. -- (negro), from Rand. sentenced to Penitentiary in 1865 for five years of an attempt to commit rape, was pardoned by Gov. McClurg on the 29 Sep 1869; NMH 6 Oct 1869 Death of An Old Citizen.--Mr. William Terrill, one of the best citizens Randolph county ever claimed, died very suddenly on the 21st of August, in Greenup county, KY. He was born in Virginia on the 18th day of February, 1807, and was in the 62nd year of his age at the time of his death. He removed to Kentucky when quite young, where he grew to manhood and lived until 1846, when he removed to this county, where he has since resided. At the age of 18 he professed religion and became a member of the Baptist Church, and was ever after a devoted and honored member. He was married on the 5th of February, 1829, to Miss Ann Calvin, of Greenup county, KY. On the 9th of last month he left with his wife to visit her relatives in Kentucky, and reached her brother's residence on the 18th. On the 20th he was taken sick and died the next day, at the place where he was married forty years previous. He was a brother of Judge James Terrill of this county, and an uncle of Rev. James Terrill of this place. Mr. Terrill leaves a large family and a host of friends and relatives to mourn his loss.; NMH 22 Sep 1869

Rainwater, was a Civil War veteran, serving with the 45th and 48th Missouri Volunteers. He is a graduate of the following schools; the rural schools of Camden County; Westport high school, Kansas City, Mo.; Junior college, Kansas City; William Jewell College, Liberty, Mo.; and Kansas Baptist Theological Seminary, Kansas City, Kansas. On October 25, 1913, he was married at Kansas City, Mo., to Miss ELLA MAY WALTERS. They have three children, H. IVAN, CHARLES WENDELL and MARIAN LOUISE. An ordained minister, he resides at Bolivar, Mo. He is Past President of the Alumni Association of the Kansas Baptist Theological Seminary, of the Kansas City Baaptist Ministerial Alliance and of the Baptist Hill Assembly of Lawrence County. Formerly he was Moderator of the Polk County Baptist Association. He was committeeman of Washington Township, Jackson County, two terms. Appointed in 1938 as a member of the Statute Revision Commission, he served in the third group.
