Born January 6, 1896, in St. Louis, a son of Judge WALTER BOND DOUGLAS, formerly of Brunswick, and FRANCESCA KIMBALL DOUGLAS, of St. Louis. He married Miss ELIZABETH LUMAGHI of St. Louis on August 5, 1939. Educated in the public schools of St. Louis, and graduated from Washington University Law School, St. Louis, in 1921, with degree of LL.B. Served as a private with Battery A of the Missouri National Guard, 1913-1917; saw Mexican border service at Loredo, Texas, in 1916; was a member of the First Officers' Training Camp at Fort Riley, Kan., in May 1917, and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant and assigned to 342nd Field Artillery, 89th (Missouri-Kansas) Division at Camp Funstan, Kan.; promoted to First Lieutenant, December 31, 1917; saw active service with A.E.F. in St. Mihiel sector; served with Army of Occupation and was mustered out of service in August, 1919. Admitted to the bar July 12, 1917, and engaged in general practice of law in St. Louis from 1921 to 1935. Lecturer on Medical Jurisprudence, Washington University Medical School, 192901937. Elected Judge of the Circuit Court of the City of St. Louis in 1934 for a six-year term, begining January 7, 1935, and served until appointed by Governor Lloyd C. Stark to the Supreme Court, April 3, 1937. Member Alpha Tau Omega and Phi Delta Phi legal fraternities (National President 1931-33); Board of Trustees, Missouri Historical Society, Jefferson Memorial, St. Louis; Charles H. Duncker Post No. 157 of the American Legion; Roy Sone Post No. 1003 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars; Military Order of the World War; Sons of the Revolution; Lawyers' Association, Eighth Judicial Circuit; and of the St. Louis, Missouri State, and American Bar Associations. Nominated to succeed himself as Judge of the Missouri Supreme Court, at the Democratic primary, August 2, 1938, he was elected November 8, 1938, for the unexpired portion of the term ending December 31, 1944. GANTT, Mexico (Democrat).--Born January 11, 1867, in Centralia, Mo., a son of PATRICK H. and MARTHA J. GANTT. Educated in the public schools of Martinsburg, Mo., and the University of Missouri. Admitted to the bar October 22, 1892, he engaged in the practice of law in Mexico, Mo. He served two terms as City Attorney of Mexico and two terms as Prosecuting Attorney of Audrain County. In March, 1916, Governor Major appointed him Judge of the Eleventh Circuit for the unexpired term of Judge JAMES D. BARNETT, who died March 10, 1916. He was elected for a full term in November 1916, and re-elected in November 1922. Married March 30, 1918, to Miss HELENA PETTINGILL, daughter of Judge and Mrs. N.M. PETTINGILL of Memphis, Mo., and they have two children, ERNEST S., Jr. and GRACE. Term expires December 31, 1942 CHARLES THOMAS HAYS, Hannibal (Democrat); born in New London, Ralls County, Missouri, May 9, 1869. Educated in the public schools, Bethany College, and the University of Missouri. A\Was married May 25, 1897, to Miss SARAH MARGARET BRASHEARS of New London. Admitted to the bar March 3, 1893, at New London, he practiced his profession there, meanwhile serving as City Attorney and as Mayor, until 1907, when he moved with his family to Hannibal. There he engaged in the practice of law and also served as Mayor in 1911 and 1912. He was appaointed by Governor Gardner, April 14, 1919, Judge of the Tenth Circuit, and was elected to an unexpired term ending December 31, 1922. He was re-elected for a full term in 1922 and again in 1928, in all instances without an opponent in either the primaries or the general election. Elected Judge of the Supreme Court November 8, 1932, for a term of ten years from January 1, 1933, to December 31, 1942.
