Hi -- I was about to bypass this when I remembered that my sister-in-law once asked me to look up relatives on her grandmother's side of the family. One was a James "Jimmy" Raney who had been a state legislator, if I recall correctly. I believe that family line hailed from the Jackson, Mississippi area. I don't know if this little tid bit will help, but if you find that you have Mc Rainey(sp?) family then you might want to look father in Miss. the actor Gerald Mc Rainey (sp?) is from Miss. He has appeared in "Major Dad" on TV several years back.
