St. James Children's Home in Woodland was established in 1909. They had 25 children placed at the Orphanage that year. In 1916, it was renamed, St. John's Orphan Home until 1956. Over the years it served children who were orphaned as well as children whose parents could not care for them during the Depression. Today, the building is called Woodland Hills, a private, nonprofit agency offering residential treatment for troubled youth. This information was taken from an article that was in the Duluth News Tribune on May 9, 2001. This could have been the facility that the child was taken to.
