My mother is selling her house and I have found many old photos while going through her things. Thought I would share this with the list. A photo of 4 men, one is my grand father, George Fredrickson...the other 3 are: Stanley Graham, Charles Sandon, and Claude McClure. It was taken about 1912. They are all dressed in suits and ties. They evidently all worked together at the Gowan, Lenning & Brown Co. on So. 5th Ave W. From another photo showing my grandfather at work and a couple other fellows at this same place it looks to me like it was a bottling company maybe. Or maybe just a warehouse but they are doing something with lots of bottles. On the back of that photo it seems the company name changed a few times. I don't have it in front of me at the moment so I don't remember what the names were. What a wonderful treasure of photos I found and I am glad my mother is still here to enjoy them too. She had forgotten she even had them. Would be glad to share the photo if any one knows any of these fellows. Marilyn in Duluth
Forest Hill cemetery has been very helpful about giving me information on Laughlin McLean (my gr-uncle) and others buried in the plot he purchased in 1888. Unfortunately, some of the interments came from the re-burial of bodies removed from the 'old cemetery at 13th Ave. East between 4th and 5th Streets,' according to Forest Hill records. They do not have the dates of death or even the full names of these people. (One is listed simply as 'a friend.') Might there be any records from the old cemetery and how could I access them? Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.
Okay, I normally wouldn't pass this to the list, but there are times when I would love to be able to read those Census images better that are too black, have tape on them, or other stuff. Why does NASA have to have all the good technology for reading ancient text? If you have an interest in Science, Archaeology, or Pompeii take a look at this site. I know it doesn't have much if anything to do with Genealogy, but maybe we can sneak one of the machines out and re-do those census images. http://www.msnbc.com/news/562226.asp?cp1=1#BODY Kim Pollard -- http://www.cableone.net/jamez/family.htm Check out some of the other websites I'm running. http://drew-ms.netfirms.com/ http://www.fortunecity.com/westwood/beautiful/877/ or http://nav.to/Merick

Hello, I am seeking information on the following people who lived in St. Louis County, probably around 1900-1915. I know they left Minnesota because of the flu epidemic and went to Oregon by 1920. Wendla Amelia Saxin, born in Sweden 1881 Andrew Saxin, born in Sweden 1875-1880 Charles Andrew Daniels, born in Waterloo, Iowa 1872 Samuel Cass Daniels, born in Maryland 1845 Martha Hough Daniels, wife of Samuel, unknown Does anyone know of these names? Can the following marriages and birth be verified? I believe that Wendla and Charles Daniels may have married around Duluth about 1904. Charles Andrew Daniels Jr. was born June 16, 1905, in either Duluth or Superior. I don't know for sure. Andrew Saxin probably also married around 1903-1905 Thanks for any help, Nicky Eickerman
Heard an excellent family story this morning. It would have occured in the late 1880s or early 1890s. Olof, the immigrant in Midway, took his young daughter to Duluth and had her vaccinated for small pox. When the blister developed, it was tapped at school and all who would allow it were vaccinated at the school. I never thought to ask which school this was done at. 1 to Duluth, many protected. I suspect many of the children vaccinated at school would also have had their blister tapped to use for relatives. Dee Poff

Hi. I am looking for information on Rebecca Skoglund who died 20 Jul 1992. SSDI gives last residence as Virginia, St.Louis MN. This fits in with details that I have. I am wondering if she was a MATTSON. I cannot locate an online obituary for her in any of the MN papers. Would anyone be able to have a look up for me. Thanks, Laurie Marlin, Fish Creek, Australia.
Laurie, She is called Emma Rebecca Skoglund 7-20-1992, Death Certificate # 5554 on the St. Jouis Co. Death Index. Go to http://www.rootsweb.com/~mnstloui/ and select the Death Records Index. Go to the "Showalter-Skow" under 1975-99 deaths. Information is given on that page on ordering a death certificate too. Then contact Bobbi at BobbiHoyt@aol.com to see if she might find the obit for you. Deb and Shirley, I just took a look at the 1900 births. Don't want to seem picky! Should the "MCLELLAN, John Joseph 8-24-1900 #726" have been spelled 'McClellan' (two c's)? Thanks Deb and Shirley. You have a marvelous web site. I'm sure glad the family I have been researching went to Duluth! Wish I could find information on Superior like this! Hi -- I was about to bypass this when I remembered that my sister-in-law once asked me to look up relatives on her grandmother's side of the family. One was a James "Jimmy" Raney who had been a state legislator, if I recall correctly. I believe that family line hailed from the Jackson, Mississippi area. AT the time, my poking around on internet sites brought no results. If you run across anything on Jimmy or his kin, I would be very glad to learn of it. Grace, Peace & Thanks -- Ralph S. Carlson
I've used those numbers and obtained naturalization paperwork. Not sure what you got but a naturalization file can contain one or more of the following: Petition for Naturalization or Citizenship Request, Intent form, certificate of arrival form. Access the INS website to find out where the records might be housed; much depends on the years and state. Hope this helps. That should have worked. I've used these numbers to get the documents at the Minn History Center in St. Paul. The only thing would be the SAM, which for St. Louis Cty is 13. I'm planning another trip over there some time within the next couple days. If you'd like, I can look yours up for you. Make sure you give me as much detail as you can, so I can be sure I get the right person. carol peterson ----- Original Message ----- From: "Darlene S Poff" <deespoff@galaxyinternet.net> To: <MNSTLOUI-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, April 11, 2001 11:08 AM Subject: [MNSTLOUI] imigration help > I wrote IronWorld, using the reel, volume, code and page I got off the St > Louis naturalization index. I wrote IronWorld, using the reel, volume, code and page I got off the St Louis naturalization index. I thought I would get numbers that could be used to access each individual naturalization file. I'm not sure what I got. The older form is for Nikolaus Bengtson (as written by the Dist Court, 11th Judicial Dist) signed 11 Sept 1897 as Nick Benson. This appears to have been a narrow form. The copied page includes the bottom of the previous form (signed 11 Sept 1897 by Olof Gulbrandson and John Stark. Olof is Nick's son-in-law and John is distantly related by marriage and is also a neighbor.) The top of the following form is also made out for Nickolaus Bengtson. The newer form resembles a certificate and is also from the Dist Court, 11th Judicial Dist. It is for John Hjalmar Nelson, lists port of entry and month and year of entry. It is signed 15 Sept 1906. (Was he trying to get this done before INS went into effect?) Can anyone tell me what I should have asked for at IronWorld and what did I actually get? And when I get the numbers I need, which repository I need to contact? I had thought Chicago, but now I'm not so sure. Advance thanks to you experienced in naturalization searches. I thought I was using the 2 easiest/most recent to locate and following instructions that have previously gone through this loop. When I get this under control, I'm after earlier emigrants. d'Argently yours, Dee
