Go for it and see what happens it sounds interesting. I would enjoy looking at it. Twiggy
Hey list I was wondering if someone out there might be able to help with a question I have. I have been scanning some of the Genealogical books from the library (in Mississippi) and I was wondering if there would be a copyright problem if I posted the pages on the internet as is with the title page and index pages (whole book) and such for people to look at and try to locate there relatives. I obivously don't want to step on anyones toes, but I hate to not have this information out to the public. Some of these books were writen over 20 or more years. Suggestions? Sorry to have to do this, but if you get a personal mail from carolgs@techheadnet.com that seems to be a reply from this list, and there is a file attached, DO NOT OPEN THE FILE. I got a file called images.pif. This is a file infected with a Trojan or Worm, similar to a virus. Delete the file. Anti-virus software cannot clean this one. If you have opened the file, go to your anti-virus software's site to find instructs for removal. If you don't have anti-virus software you can go to one of the main sites for information such as www.mcafee.com or www.symantec.com. I don't believe the person mentioned above intended to send this. If their system is infected, the worm may be sending out these attachments automatically to names in their address book. I have notified the address above about the problem. If you have any questions, write to me at ddhamm@aol.com DeeDee
Okay. Hello. Since it was directed to me I attempted to open the file, but it didn't open. I received a "File Corrupt Message". Then I replied, and moved on to the next message, which was this one telling me NOT to open the attached file. I went back and deleted the entire email. But am I too late? Does the file actually have to open? carol peterson ----- Original Message ----- From: <Ddhamm@aol.com> To: <MNSTLOUI-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, May 08, 2001 11:44 AM Subject: [MNSTLOUI] MNSTLOU list Virus warning > Sorry to have to do this, but if you get a personal mail from > carolgs@techheadnet.com that seems to be a reply from this list, and there is > a file attached, DO NOT OPEN THE FILE. > > I got a file called images.pif. DeeDee on one of the lists I'm on a lady is in touch with someone in MIch. who is trying to do that. Don't worry we are trying to stop them. I got that "supposed" newsletter. All it does is promote that Family Discovery site that you have to pay for (also called GenealogyRelated.com). I tried to send an email to unsubscribe and it got returned. How irritating! I suppose people could write to the Better Business Bureau about this company since it has taken people's money and not provided what was promised. DeeDee
I got this email, and they do say they charge for searches, and they do explain why. What is the "got had" part of this? Are they not doing the searches? I go out of my way not to pay, so I'm not familiar with most of these types of services. I use them only when desperate, for instance, getting copies of docs from Scots Origins. Pricey if you don't know what you're looking for exactly. carol peterson ----- Original Message ----- From: "Kim Pollard" <merick@cableone.net> To: <MNSTLOUI-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, May 06, 2001 9:21 AM Subject: [MNSTLOUI] I wanted to warn everyone that Family Discovery is back > Hello All, I received a email x2 from some people called "GenTruth". Hello All, I received a email x2 from some people called "GenTruth". In the body of the email they go on to say Excrept from my email: Inside this issue of In The Spotlight, we are going to discuss the different aspects of Family Discovery. If you have not heard of, or don't understand this service, be sure to read on and learn everything you need to know about their service. Family Discovery offers an online-based genealogical research tool. They provide a unique service that many researchers don't understand. When it comes down to it, they offer a pay for use search engine. At first, this sounds like an absurd place to spend your time. I mean, there are tons of free search engines out there. Why would someone pay for access to one? End excrept. (didn't want to waste your email space) If you haven't received your copy of the junk mail you can email me and I would be happy to send it out to you so you don't become one of the many that have been had by these people. Listers, Old Forest Hill Cemetery was started ca 1870 and the disinterments were completed sometime in the late 1890's. No records exist for that cemetery. The only thing I ever found was a plat (no names or locations) of the old cemetery and ocassional reference to 'moved from old cemetery'. New Forest Hill Cemetery's first recorded burial was in 1881 and it was incorporated in 1888. Records for the 1st 15 years are very sketchy. As for the GAR being moved - again no record exists with the cemetery. Perhaps checking with the GAR could shed some light on that. Good luck, Kathy N
I am a might curious about this Old Forest Hill Cem. I was informed yr or so ago that my great uncle George W. Brown (1844-1895) was buried in cemetery in the Forest Hill Cem which is one of the oldest in Duluth, and in the GAR section. If some were removed, then where to and when? There was no mention of the GAR section being moved. Was It? I did not receive any data except on George. But he had a (2nd) wife named "Effie" So would or could Effie have been buried in new cem? She was still alive in 1920. HE also had a son, Robert Malcolm Brown living at that time. HE was age abt 28 in 1920. Yesterday at our church rummage sale i found a picture and i want to share this in case anyone one wants it or knows the family or the church or anything. it is a rather large picture of the women coming to Jesus tomb and finding an angel there. on the back of the picture is written Altertavlen i Molde Kirke, Norge and under that the name Axel Anders from my translation it means it was an alter piece of the church. could this be? it has water damage and looks very old. but i had to have it and to share this info on these lists incase anyone might have a connection to this picture. the sale was at Zion Lutheran Church on 25th Ave W and Superior st. here in Duluth. no one knows who donated the picture.
