Does anyone have information on the United Ancient Order of Druids? My grandfather and a great uncle were members of the local 'grove' some time during the period they lived in Virginia (1895-1910). This local grove hosted a convention in Virginia so it must have been a fairly large organization in its time and I wonder if there is a membership list still available somewhere. Any help or suggestions appreciated. Lee

This will be a Masonic Lodge. They are great supporters of charities, particulary for children. The free Shriners' children hospitals are an offshoot of the Masons. To be a Shriner, you must first be a Mason and a Christian. As far as I know, there were no hotels on Kent Rd. Like I said before, there are just fine older homes that are huge, with many rooms. They have been kept up very nice by their owners even to this day. I would say if your ancestor owned a home on Kent Rd. back in 1939, he was rather wealthy. Of course the other possibility is that he just stayed with another family in one of the homes. Vince, I would guess that the "r" in the record you have with his address would stand for "residence" rather than "renter", particularly in that area of Duluth. However, not knowing the source, this is only a guess. Also, his age might be a factor - if he was young, it's possible that he was renting a room in one of the fine old houses, or even employed by the owner, or a student at the college, renting a room. If he was older, my guess would be that he owned the house (residence). Just some food for thought.... Carole At 8/1/2001 10:28 PM, you wrote: >Yes, that is it. Hello All, I'm was wondering if anyone out there knows or has any information on the Birth of a Nation Orchestra. A relative of mine was in it and they toured the nation and I was wondering if anyone could help. I tried a search, but I didn't come up with anything. Suggestions? Kim Pollard
My relative died at 15 Kent in the year 1939. He was listed as r, which I gather either means rented or residence! Not sure which. Was this a hotel, home, or what -- does anyone know? Thanks, Vince

I hope to have it posted on appropriate websites, also. Thanks each group, and all individuals, who have helped me in this. Particular thanks goes to "Twiggy" -- a member of one of these lists. Hello list, I am curious about an Alex Lyons listed in the death index as dying 12/18/1912. It is possible that he is my Alex Lyons. Is there someone who can look at the death cert and give me a transcript? I would be very appreciative. Thanks, Dean Cameron
Hi folks, Just want to clarify the death record situation for the State of Minnesota - Death records are now $10.00 per certified and $10.00 per uncertified ( or plain copy as the clerks call it.) If you are a genealogist and do not need a certified copy, always order a plain copy. This means you will get the copy of the original document - handwriting, signatures and all. St. Louis County stamps it "For Genealogical Use Only" and other counties put their own stamp on it or none at all. But if you order a certified copy, you will get a transcribed record on fancy paper with very minimal information. Not at all useful for a genealogist. You also need to have a notarized letter if sending for one or identification if getting one in person. Birth records have also gone down in their rates. $13.00 for a certified record and (I believe) $10.00 per plain copy. Same thing is true when ordering birth records as death records. I have this from the County Recorder, Mark Monacelli, at the St. Louis County Courthouse and the State of Minnesota. All counties are to go by these same rules. Dena, Include the Death Cert. #5093 and other information and send for the Cert.
