    1. [MNSTEARN] Re: Lietz - Stearns County
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: danzl, volz, lietz Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/TJB.2ACI/73.363.765.771.1.2.2 Message Board Post: My grandmother (the only living child, Hilda Danzl Volz, born 1906), father and aunt would always talk about how depression ran in the family from the Lietz side. Whenever they would talk about Eva, my great-grandmother, they would shake their heads because of the severity of her depression. From what I've been told, she was really badly off and needed to be institutionalized. I've also heard stories about other relatives but they don't quite match up with the names...so I might be getting them confused with my paternal grandparent's side of the family instead of my maternal. "Great Uncle Johnny": Was in the merchant marines, fought in WWI, decorated. Shot and killed by a cop in the Great Depression when he was reduced to stealing hubcaps for food. "Great Aunt Kaddy" (this is Catherine): She was always traveling the world and bringing back souvenirs. "Great Uncle Gus": Gus was short for "August". I always assumed this was a brother of my grandmother's. He lived on a farm in Indiana. Unless this is Aloysius? Anyway, I know other relatives lived on this farm, too. My father's cousin, Jackie Spacy, who recently passed, was the adopted daughter of one of the Danzl children's families. The mother hung herself in the barn due to depression, and little Jackie found her. From then on, she was in and out of institutions herself, even though not blood related. Sorry this is so vague; I guess I could ask my father about it since he would know. I was just told all these stories when I was growing up. "Great Aunt Bertha". Lived to be 102. But was rather senile when she passed. I met a relative of my grandmother's by the name of "Nazi" after meeting Adeline and Pete in Melrose, MN in 1986. I don't know how I was related to him. He was 96 at the time, and full of energy. I'm sorry, I don't know anything about Michael Lietz's brothers or parents. Or about Adolph or Joseph. Do you know if Ferdinand Danzl was the son of Ferdinand and Catharine (Ebnet) Danzl? jv
