I have a few questions on where to find info in MN. I have one of my families on the 1880 census in Brockway twnsp. Stearns. Is there a city that Brockway twnsp is in? The names I am researching are Pohl and Sura. I find a lot of Pohl's in MN but they were all born in Prussia and my John Pohl was born in IN. then went to MN were he met and married Mary (Maria) Pohl around 1882-3 as their daughter was born in 1884. Is there a central place where I can email or write as they were Catholic and most likely married in the church. Family history has it the daughter was born in St. Paul but that has not been confirmed. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you. Consider contacting the Stearns History Museum in St. Cloud for serious research help. You could also visit their website (http://www.stearns-museum.org/), search family info via their online catalog (http://www.stearns-museum.org/index2.html), and have them send you copies by mail (there are some files on Pohl families there). They charge for their research time and for copying, but it would cost you far less than traveling there. The only towns in Brockway Township are Opole and St. Stephen. There is a Catholic church and cemetery in St. Stephen, both named St. Stephen. There is also a church and cemetery called Our Lady of Mt. Carmel in Opole, as well as a couple of community cemeteries elsewhere in the Township. The Catholic church has no central method for searching records. You would have to directly contact a particular church and hope the priest finds time to check the records. Below are records from a survey of gravestone markers (done in the mid 1970's).
