I have some copies of old maps showing who owned which farm. I'm trying to figure out the legal descriptions. The farms are about 3 miles north east of Eden Valley in section 31. I'm trying to figure out the township and range. The township one above is 123 so would it be 124? The range 1 to the east is 30 so would it be 31? Is there a site to figure this out? Pay particular attention to how the Sections and Twonships are numbered (They are not necessarily numbered left to right or top to bottom). Stearns County Township map, part of the Stearns County GenWeb site is at <http://www.rootsweb.com/~mnstearn/resources/maps.html> The short story is that Eden Valley lies in two counties Stearns and Meeker. It lies in the southern part of Sections 34 and 35, Eden Lake Township (Township 122 North, Range 31 West (T122N,R31W)), Stearns County and in the northern part of Sections 2 and 3, Manannah Township (T121N,R31W), Meeker County. Your estimate of 3 miles NE of Eden Valley could put you in Section 24 or 25 of Eden Lake Township or even in Section 19 or 30 of Luxemburg Township (T122N,R30W) Phil Holm
Thanks Phil, I had tried that ...outfitters... site but it is shut down. The farms aren't in section 24 they are in sections 31 and 32. My map shows that. It doesn't show the township and range. Now I have figured them out (I think) as township 122 and range 30W.
