Phil, I see I have thrown you off by a mistake in my initial inquiry. The farms aren't 3 miles north east of Eden Valley but more like 3 miles east and a fraction north. I'm trying to figure out the legal descriptions. The farms are about 3 miles north east of Eden Valley in section 31. I'm trying to figure out the township and range. The township one above is 123 so would it be 124? The range 1 to the east is 30 so would it be 31? Is there a site to figure this out? > > John, Confused in Vancouver > > > John, > > A website that may be a great learning aid for the federal > township-range system is > <http://www.outfitters.com/genealogy/land/twprange.html> > "Indescriminate metes and bounds" is a different system entirely. With that information, the farm is in Section 31, Luxemburg Township (T122N,R30W), Stearns County not Eden Lake Township (T122N,R31W). I just tried the Outfitters site and it is working for me. <http://www.outfitters.com/genealogy/land/twprange.html> Phil Holm
Thanks again Phil. I tried that .....outfitters...site again. I had tried to access that first part about "maps and meridians of bases..." That part is shut down because of litigation but the rest does work fine.
