One was a priest. In 1983 my family took a trip to MN and visited with some relatives in Pierz and the Little Falls area. Diana, I live about 50 miles from where the priest (Fr. Fridolin Tembreull) is buried and where he last served. I have photocopies of his obituaries and photos of his grave (buried at the abbey of Muenster, Saskatchewan). He is included in a good history of the abbey. You also asked, What do you have have on the Tembreull's and who/what was your sosurce? What is your connection to this family? Diana, I have a large file on the TEMBREULLs, especially on the "old country" of Wessum and Ottenstein in Ahaus county, Westfalen (Westphalia), Germany. The name is actually spelled in a number of ways further back, especially TENBREUL or TENBROYEL, or even simply BROIEL. TEN is Dutch for "at the". So the name means "at the Breul". Breul seems to mean "swamp" or "marsh". My interest is mostly the older generations, which I have tracked back to the early 1600s, with still some gaps in information. As far as sources, I used especially the films from the LDS (Mormon) Family History Centre of the Catholic parishes of Wessum and Ottenstein. The parishes of Ahaus and Alstaette and a few other places have also added some information. My connection to the family is Magdalena TENBREUL (1841-1913). She was a sister to Anton Tembreull, the father of the Regina you mention. Magdalena's whole family apparently lost contact with Anton's family sometime after they arrived in the U.S.A., and only once I got in touch with Ruth Litke did the two sides share more recent information. Ruth was related to John Tembreull, brother to Regina. Magdalena Tenbreul married two times (Gerhard Hermann Schwiep, b 1828, Alstatte, Ahaus Co., Westfalen- d. 1876, New Munich, Stearns, MN) and Joseph Morbeck (1845-1924, Unionville, Pullmann, Wash.) and had 13 children. There are still some gaps in information on some of her children. Magdalena and Hermann Schwiep were parents to Regina Schwiep (ca 1859, Kenosha Co., WIS.- 1882, New Munich), who in turn married Gottlieb Koch (ca 1831, Wuerttemberg, Germany-1898, New Munich). They were parents to my grandmother, Magdalena KOCH (1878-1957, Melrose), who married Bernard RENNEKER (1865, Neuenkirchen, Oldenburg- 1962, Melrose, Stearns, MN). They had several children including my mother, Agnes Renneker (1912-2003, Minneapolis, MN). If you have further information on any of them, I would be interested, or if you want more information on any of the above, let me know. Donald TEMBREULL, the last I heard, was working on a history of the whole family, but nothing has been published as of yet. Ken Neumann
