Surnames: Dirkes, Poos Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/TJB.2ACI/1043.1.2 Message Board Post: Greetings Linda, I dont know if this has any bearing on your Elisabeth Boos but I feel any clue, no matter how small, may make a difference some day. My Dirkes family was from Luxembourg. Sister Elisabeth born 1834 married Heinrich Poos. They immigrated to the US in the early 1860s and I cannot find them. Elisabeth's brother Matthew Dirkes immigrated to Wi and the Poos family supposedly went there also, but I cannot find them. My Dirkes family was born in Luxembourg but worked on the other side of the Our River in Gentingen, which was in Lux at the time most of the family was born. Today it is in Germany. There is a footbridge across the river in Gentingen and it looks very old. There are Poos buried in the Gentingen cemetery. Perhaps you could look for your Elisabeth Boos in this area someday?? Not much of a stretch Boos vs. Poos. LOL My GGGgrandfather Peter Dirkes always maintained he was born in Lux altho the records of his family are at the archives in Trier. The rest of the Dirkes' that came over all went to Stearns County, then one brother went to ND, and one to Black Hawk Co., IA. Karen in Iowa

Do you know an address where I could write them, or anyone who could give them my e-mail or mail address? (I live in Indiana, and have been unable to make a trip there so far to research or try to locate anyone.) Thanks again, any help you can give me is very appreciated!

    1. O'CONNOR - FEENEY - FLYNN
    2. Good Morning Everyone, I am seeking "Any Information" available on any of the above families. Places known are: Illinois; Minnesota; North Dakota; Nebraska; Canada; Ireland; France. What is known: Richard FEENEY b. about 1912 and brother James FEENEY b. about 1915. Both born North Dakota. Mother of these boys was Ann or Anna O'CONNOR b. about 1890 in Minnesota, died after 1920. The 1920 census found in Devil's Lake, Ramsey County, North Dakota. Anna is listed as age 29, widow. Both boys were listed. Father was "Unknown" FEENEY b. Ireland, died before 1920. These boys were raised by Anna's sister, Mary O'CONNOR b. 1891 in Minnesota, and her husband Fergus M. FLYNN b. 1890 in Nebraska. This was in Franklin Park (Chicago suburb), Cook County, Illinois. The boys were found with them in the 1930 Census. Mary & Fergus lived their entire married lives in Franklin Park, Cook County, Illinois and also died there. However, they were both buried in St. Patrick Cemetery, Melrose, Stearns County, Minnesota. The 1920 census for both Mary & Anna state father b. Ireland and mother b. Canada. However the 1930 census for Mary states father b. Ireland and mother b. France. Looking for any information as to Mary and Anna's parents and/or siblings; "Unknown Feeney's first name; or anything else that might be helpful. Thanks so much for taking the time to read this. Handwritten notes by grandchildren have the village of origin for Anna Grein as Haberge (sp?), Belgium. On census forms, Anna and Michael list Flemish as the mother tongue, if that is any help. I am trying to find ancestors born in Belgium for either or both Anna Grein and Michael Guelff. Family legend has it that the Guelff line was remotely connected to the Hanover line and had some small legacy coming once a will was probated. The will was eventually probated, but WWI and attendant inflation reduced it to pennies.
