We think he was the father of Joseph John Bienek who was born in Germany in 1865. According to his naturalization papers he arrived in the US in 1880. Joseph married Jane Witherow about 1890. He then died in April, 1904 in Kittson County, MN. He had a brother Anton who lived in North Dakota and a sister Mary Annie whose married last name was Mulzof. They also lived in Kittson County. Urban is found in church records in Silesia and married Franciska Lamzka. They had children Maria, Magdalena, Anton, Rosalia, Johann, and we think Joseph.

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/TJB.2ACI/1665.1 Message Board Post: In the" History of Stearns County" book by W.B. Mitchell there is a bio. sketch of A.M. Stiles and it says: A.M. Stiles, one of the leading exponents of agricultural supremacy, in Stearns county, was born in Steuben county, New York, April 10, 1838, son of David and Clarinda (Shaw) Stiles, who took up a homestead in this county, in 1862. A.M. Stiles was taken by the family to Indiana in 1853 and to Adams county, Wisconsin, in 1858. When the parents came to Stearns county, he went to Rochester, Minn. In 1864 he made a trip overland to the Rocky Mountains, and there mined in Idaho for about two years. In 1866 he returned to Minnesota, joined his parents, and located on a farm in section 11, Ashley township, where he still resides. He has prospered with the years and is now the owner of several large farms. Mr. Stiles was elected chairman of the board of supervisors when the town was organized, and has served in an official capacity on the board for about thirty years, part of the time as supervisor and part of the time as clerk. He has also held school office for a considerable per! iod. In 1879 he sat in the lower house of the Minnesota legislature. He is honored in Odd Fellowship as one of the founders, and the first Noble Grand of Sauk Centre Lodge, No. 34, I.O.O.F. In the Methodist Church he has been an efficient and active worker. All-in-all, he is a useful citizen, one whose life has meant something in the community where he has for so long made his home. A.M. Stiles married Mary W. Teeters, and they have four children: Offie, Clara, Bertha, and Emma. David and Clarinda (Shaw) Stiles had nine children: Philena, Albert M., Lafayette, Mirah, Orrel, Ellen, Frances, Theodore and Orlando.

One was a priest. In 1983 my family took a trip to MN and visited with some relatives in Pierz and the Little Falls area. Diana, I live about 50 miles from where the priest (Fr. Fridolin Tembreull) is buried and where he last served. I have photocopies of his obituaries and photos of his grave (buried at the abbey of Muenster, Saskatchewan). He is included in a good history of the abbey. You also asked, What do you have have on the Tembreull's and who/what was your sosurce? What is your connection to this family? Diana, I have a large file on the TEMBREULLs, especially on the "old country" of Wessum and Ottenstein in Ahaus county, Westfalen (Westphalia), Germany. The name is actually spelled in a number of ways further back, especially TENBREUL or TENBROYEL, or even simply BROIEL. TEN is Dutch for "at the". So the name means "at the Breul". Breul seems to mean "swamp" or "marsh". My interest is mostly the older generations, which I have tracked back to the early 1600s, with still some gaps in information. As far as sources, I used especially the films from the LDS (Mormon) Family History Centre of the Catholic parishes of Wessum and Ottenstein. The parishes of Ahaus and Alstaette and a few other places have also added some information. My connection to the family is Magdalena TENBREUL (1841-1913). She was a sister to Anton Tembreull, the father of the Regina you mention. Magdalena's whole family apparently lost contact with Anton's family sometime after they arrived in the U.S.A., and only once I got in touch with Ruth Litke did the two sides share more recent information. Ruth was related to John Tembreull, brother to Regina. Magdalena Tenbreul married two times (Gerhard Hermann Schwiep, b 1828, Alstatte, Ahaus Co., Westfalen- d. 1876, New Munich, Stearns, MN) and Joseph Morbeck (1845-1924, Unionville, Pullmann, Wash.) and had 13 children. There are still some gaps in information on some of her children. Magdalena and Hermann Schwiep were parents to Regina Schwiep (ca 1859, Kenosha Co., WIS.- 1882, New Munich), who in turn married Gottlieb Koch (ca 1831, Wuerttemberg, Germany-1898, New Munich). They were parents to my grandmother, Magdalena KOCH (1878-1957, Melrose), who married Bernard RENNEKER (1865, Neuenkirchen, Oldenburg- 1962, Melrose, Stearns, MN). They had several children including my mother, Agnes Renneker (1912-2003, Minneapolis, MN). If you have further information on any of them, I would be interested, or if you want more information on any of the above, let me know. Donald TEMBREULL, the last I heard, was working on a history of the whole family, but nothing has been published as of yet. Ken Neumann

I think it is their house, I'll have to look more closely. I also have a very old, pencil sketch of a little girl standing by a well. The title is The Old Well, Maine Prairie, 1878. The artist also drew a picture of the Fowler Farm on Maine Prairie, though I don't have that one. I, too, have read stories regarding the store, probably from Ada Phillips. The information came from the Stearns Historical Museum and from an article written about her life in the 1980s. I'll keep looking through my pictures and information - Sue. Sug53@earthlink.net

I am an active part of the Kimball Area Historical Society, and unfortunately no one is aware of any photos that exist. Likewise, the Stearns County History Center has not identified any Maine Prairie photos either. I keep hoping one of these days there will be a breakthrough. On the store, I believe that your Louden purchased the store from my g-grandfather Roger W. Stanley about at the turn of the century. He had a store on one corner and his brother David B. Stanley had a store on the opposite corner. DB's store included pharmacy, the Post Office, livery for the stage, etc. Roger's store was more general merchandise. A third store was run later by Delbert Guptill. There is a short segment on the hamlet (written by RW Stanley) in Mitchell's history. Stearns County also has an oral history by Ida (Louden) Phillips when she was 89 in which she describes some memories from when her family had the store. I have transcribed the segment where she talks about the store. But again no photos. There is a diagram of the location of the Corners' buildings in the 1894 Atlas, showing the three stores and other structures.

My sister Barbara is divorced and has one sone Ian and they live in Centreville, VA. Mom's only brother, Frank was born July 17, 1921 in St. Paul, MN and is widow. His wife was Credwyn Marie Maurice born Feb. 15, 1916 in Seattle, WA and they married April 16, 1955 in Seattle, WA. They have one daughter, Anita Anita Marie born April 2, 1956. Anita is married to a Timothy Taylor and they don't have any children. Mom'st wo younger sisters have passed away. Bonita Marie was born April 17, 1923 in MN and died Nov. 21, 2003 in Billings, MT. She had been married twice and had no children of her own. Her last husband, who I believe is still living is Charles Schweiger. The youngest of the 4 children was Joan Marie born Jan. 4, 1925 in Seattle, WA. She married Robert Nathaniel Nelson on May 25, 1946 in Seattle, WA. They had 7 children; Carol Lllewelyn born Jan 23, 1947, Susan Marie born Aug. 10, 1948, Frank (Fritz) born May 19, 1954, Jeffrey Christopher born Aug. 29, 1956, Lorraine Vivian born July 12, 1958, Roger Craig born April 17, 1961 and Jennifer Jean Nelson born March 11, 1965 all in Seattle, WA. Most of them are married and have children and some of their children have gotten married. Only my son Terry has gotten married thus far. There were 13 children in Grandma Regina's family. One was a priest. In 1983 my family took a trip to MN and visited with some relatives in Pierz and the Little Falls area. Grandma was born June 21, 1897 and her baptized name was Regina Marie Tembreull (2 ls). She marrie Frank Lewis Hapka July 17, 1917 in Pierz, MN and she died Feb 14, 1980 in Seattle, WA. Frank was born Nov 23, 1896 in Little Fall, MN and died Oct 25, 1965 in Seattle, WA. He is one of 4 children. Could this Wm. Hopke be any relation to Frank's father Paul? Paul was a brewmaster and had a saloon in the area-Little Falls, I believe. When people came over from Europe, the officials didn't always get the correct spelling on names, so don't really know if the spelling is Hoppe, Hopke, Hopke, Hapka, but Hapka is what it ended up. What do you have have on the Tembreull's and who/what was your sosurce? What is your connection to this family? If you have any questions, I will try to answer them. Diana Johnson Ayers

    1. Re: Descendants of William H. Hopke, TEMBREUL, STEINBACH
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: HAPKA, TEMBREUL, STEINBACH Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/TJB.2ACI/1583.1.1 Message Board Post: Diana, I can’t help you probably with the Hoppe (Hapka) family too much, if at all. You probably have the info already on your own family. My interest is the TEMBREULL family you mention at the bottom, but I do not see any reference to STEINBACH in my Tembreull family file and papers. I have lots on the whole TEMBREULL clan going back to Wessum and Ottenstein, Ahaus county, Westfalen. If interested, let me know. The only connection I see with your information is the mention of Regina Tembreull marrying Frank Hapka (your grandfather). I have births, deaths, marriage, and information n their 4 children and families. If you are missing anything, let me know. Actually, my information is skimpy on dates but better on names and places. If you have birthdays for Joan and Bonnie, as well as marriage dates, that would be appreciated. Ken Neumann
