    1. [MNSTEARN] New Listing-ABBOTT & THOMPSON/c1880s-1920+
    2. Janice G. Donley
    3. Hello, I am new to this List. I have discovered my husband's great-granduncle in Stearns County around 1880 and his daughter in St. Cloud, MN around 1920. I am looking for any descendants - or anyone researching this family. ================== August ABBOTT, was born 1836, Allegheny County, PA to Augustus and Rosa OTT ABBOTT. Allegheny County is in the Pittsburgh area of PA. 1860 Federal Census for Allegheny Co., PA shows August married to Caroline ? with a daughter, Caroline, one year old. September, 1861 August enlisted in Co. L of the 5th Penna. Volunteer Calvary. He was discharged September 1864 in Virginia. After discharge he lived in PA, OH, WY, Idaho Territory, and MN According to his pension application he lived near St. Cloud, MN with his family in 1882. August appears in the 1880 MN Federal Census Index in Stearns County. About this time he was divorced. He had another daughter, Mrs. Ida E. THOMPSON, (b abt. 187-80) who lived in St. Cloud, MN in 1908. August was in the National Soldier's Hospital in Dayton, Ohio from Feb. 1882 to Aug. 1885. He was not heard from after he left there. Any connections with anybody out there? I have a lot more info on August's family that I am willing to share. Janice Pittsburgh, PA P.S. Is there anybody with access to the county courthouse who can look up the divorce records, c1880, for me? I would also like a copy of page 345 of the Stearns County 1880 Federal Census. I am willing to pay for services and expenses. Anyone know a genealogist for hire in the area?

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/TJB.2ACI/597.982 Message Board Post: Just read your message. I don't know any of those names, offhand, but since I grew up in Belgrade, I thought I might offer a suggestion. You could try a couple of the nearby churches. For one thing, the town of Georgeville moved when the railroad came through. It was first at the site where the Crow River Church is. You could try contacting the minister at that church for possible information--I believe they used to put together a book on parishoners every few years (?) or so. Or you could try the Gausdal Church which would also have a Belgrade address (as does the Crow River Church) . Just a thought. Good luck.
