    3. > I have a few questions on where to find info in MN. I have one of my families on the 1880 census in Brockway twnsp. Stearns. Is there a city that Brockway twnsp is in? The names I am researching are Pohl and Sura. I find a lot of Pohl's in MN but they were all born in Prussia and my John Pohl was born in IN. then went to MN were he met and married Mary (Maria) Pohl around 1882-3 as their daughter was born in 1884. Is there a central place where I can email or write as they were Catholic and most likely married in the church. Family history has it the daughter was born in St. Paul but that has not been confirmed. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you. Lorelee Iles Dendauw, Oregon Lorelee, Check the Stearns GenWeb site (http://www.rootsweb.com/~mnstearn/) for general info on what is available in the county. Consider contacting the Stearns History Museum in St. Cloud for serious research help. You could also visit their website (http://www.stearns-museum.org/), search family info via their online catalog (http://www.stearns-museum.org/index2.html), and have them send you copies by mail (there are some files on Pohl families there). They charge for their research time and for copying, but it would cost you far less than traveling there. The only towns in Brockway Township are Opole and St. Stephen. There is a Catholic church and cemetery in St. Stephen, both named St. Stephen. There is also a church and cemetery called Our Lady of Mt. Carmel in Opole, as well as a couple of community cemeteries elsewhere in the Township. The Catholic church has no central method for searching records. You would have to directly contact a particular church and hope the priest finds time to check the records. Below are records from a survey of gravestone markers (done in the mid 1970's). Each record lists the name, date of birth, date of death, and cemetery code. Some records add on a comment at the end. The cemetery codes for your records are: 8.2 Calvary, in St. Cloud 69.1 St. Joseph, in St. Joseph 30 St. James, in Jacobs Prairie 40 North Star, in St. Cloud 43 Our Lady of Mt. They are not identified by name, however, many were taken in Melrose, St. Cloud, and Sauk Centre. The majority are wedding pictures. The photos came from my great grandmother's house, and therefore I am guessing they would include people connected to the following families: Struck, Rieland, Froehler, Servatius, Wolbeck, Feldeverd, Van Drehle, Wensman, Sonnen, and possibly Koch. I am trying to identify as many of these photos as possible. If you are interested in seeing them, please contact me by e-mail.

Surnames: SCHABEL, FUCHS, SCHELL, MOYER, BLUM Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/TJB.2ACI/135.381.400.1.1 Message Board Post: We may find a possible connection. I'll fill you in about my Ohio Schabels, then I'll do some digging to see what I can find out about Ida May. My IGNATIUS SCHABEL was born in Alsace Lorraine (I think) in July of 1811. He immigrated most likely during the 1830's, with his siblings and I believe his mother. I am not sure, but I believe that they lived in Pennsylvania for a short time, then moved westward to Ohio. In Ohio, they settled in an area that is now Auglaize, Mercer, and Shelby counties. Ignatius (aka IGNATZ) ran a sort of trading post there; he was a farmer as well. He lived in MacLean Township, in or near the village of Fort Loramie. Ignatius was married three times that I know of: to 1)THERESA MOYER 8 Apr 1840 Shelby Co OH: to 2)MAGDALIS MECHTILDE SCHELL Jan 1849/Minster OH; and to 3) ANNA MARIA FUCHS 2 Jun 1841 Minster OH. I know that his second wife died in 1849; I haven't confirmed it, but I believe that his first wife died as well. I have found records of nine children of Ignatius and his third wife; it appears that all of these children (with the exception of one who died in infancy) moved on to Minnesota with Ignatius and Anna Maria around 1865. I have found a record of a JOHN SCHABEL, born in 1846, who in 1860 was reported in the Fort Loramie census with a neighboring farmer (Martin and Catherine Lehman). It is possible that this John Schabel is a child of Ignatius Schabel and his first wife, Theresa Moyer. I believe that he remained behind in Ohio, and did not go to Minnesota with the others. The possible connection to your Ida May could occur through the 1846 John Schabel, or possibly through Ignatius' siblings. I have found records of what I believe are Ignatius' siblings: CATHERINE (married George MULLER/MILLER) BARTHOLOMEW (married Elizabeth BLUM) MAGDALENA (married Conard MOYER/MYER) JOHN I believe that their mother was MARGARET; I do not know her maiden surname. Would you like more information about Ignatius' brothers to help determine if they connect to your Ida May?

I have an Ida May Schabel whose mother (name unknown) came to MI in a covered wagon from OH. I know that her maiden name wasn't SCHABEL, but this is the only info I have for her. She told my husband (as a small boy) about an elephant that was chained to the deck of the ship that she came to America on. I believe she had to have been born about 1850s to 1860s. I am also interested in finding out the name of her husband who was a SCHABEL. Their daughter was Ida May SCHABEL who was born 1892 in MI.Ida married Edward R. LEMKE SR abt 1910 in Muskegon, Muskegon CO MI.
