Virginia, The Stearns History Museum (235 33rd Avenue South, St. Cloud, MN 56301,1-866-253-8424 (toll free) or 320-253-8424) is an outstanding place to do genealogy research in St. Cloud. You can see a little of what they offer by looking at their website (http://www.stearns-museum.org/) or by searching their online archives catalog (http://archives.stearns-museum.org/). You will find they have: - Cemetery Directories - Inventory of Gravestones - All newspapers published in the County - Index to St. Cloud Daily Times from 1928, microfiche. - Index cards on obituaries in St. Cloud Daily Times from 1887-1927. - Naturalization papers for Stearns County on microfilm from 1853-1954. - Census records for 1850, 1857, 1860, 1865, 1870 (indexed), 1875, 1880, 1885, 1895, 1900, 1905, 1910, 1920, and 1930 on microfilm. - First property transfers. - Plat maps - City Directories 1888 - 1999 - 100 Town and parish histories - Regional school annuals - 17,000 family histories - 1,800 oral histories, - files on local institutions - 13,000 biographical vertical files - Photo collections: 17,500 - Myron Hall photo collection: 273,000 - Studio portraits: 75,000 - Slides: 1,500 - Home movie frames: 1,800,000 - Minneapolis Irish Standard Newspaper 1886 - 1920 - Luxemburg Gazette, Dubuque, Iowa, 1871 - 1918, indexed - Printout of all Luxembourg households 1880, 1930 & 1984 - Meyers Ort. German Empire Gazetteer, 1912 - Austro-Hungarian Empire Gazetteer, 1845 - Detailed maps of Germany & Luxembourg - Germans to America 1850 to 1897 - Germans to America Series II, 1840 - 1847 - The Famine Immigrants, 1846 - 1851 - Westphalian Emigrants - Muenster, 1803 - 1850, indexed - Westphalian Emigrants - Minden, 1816 - 1900, indexed - Jos Mergen's Trier Emigrants, Volumes 1 - 8 plus Schuhn's Supplementary Volume, indexed - Volumes 9 - 13, Saarland, indexed ...all backed by the tools needed to view these materials, a nice research facility to work in, and an extremely knowledgeable staff! Some research also can be done at the county courthouse, but that is only a poor second recourse. SCAG (St. Cloud Area Genealogists) will do some research for you for a fee and has some very useful materials for sale at modest prices (see website: http://www.rootsweb.com/~mnscag/SCAG/). Basic info about county resources is also available at the Stearns GenWeb site: http://www.rootsweb.com/~mnstearn/. Calvary Cemetery (Catholic) and North Star Cemetery are the two oldest cemeteries in St. Cloud. I am planning a trip to St. Cloud where my relatives lived. Are there any books or web sites that would list the names of people buried in the catholic cemeteries and where would I find these books? My relatives would have probably died in the late 1800s and early 1900s. Does St. Cloud have a genealogy society and historical society? Thank you in advance.

I am planning a trip to St. Cloud. I would like to visit the oldest catholic cemeteries in the area to see if I can locate descendants who would have probably died in the 1880s to the early 1900s. Does St. Cloud have a genealogy society and historical society where one can do research? Any help would be appreciated. I have never been to St. Cloud. Thank you in advance.

The Corners was a thriving community from the 1870s through 1890s, but faded away after the coming of the Soo line drew activity and commerce 5 miles south to the new town of Kimball. There are no known photos through Stearns History Museum, but perhaps individuals have one in their own collections.
