    1. New list of interest to MN researchers
    2. There is a new mailing list that may be of interest to some members of this list. The new list is [email protected]_ (mailto:[email protected]) It is for the discussion of,and assistance in locating, the many logging camps that dotted most of MN from the later 1800's to the mid-1900's. There were so many of them, and they all employed large numbers of workers, often seasonal, that came from other areas of Minnesota and traveled to the logging camp to work while their family stayed behind in the family home. Since much of the logging was done in the winter, many rural farmers and farm hands went off to the logging camps to supplement the family income in the winter. Many operated year around however, and the men worked full time or for stretches of time before returning to their families. We are identifying some areas using the census records, and all the different occupations that are noted. The names of the workers will be listed and any information we can glean on this substantial part of Minnesota history. Many of us have family stories to tell of the ancestor who worked in the logging camps, but most of us are not sure exactly where. If you have ancestors that worked in the logging camps, please join us and help each other with information. Jo Hogle
