    1. 1870 Census on Ancestry - if you have access
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Sander, Becker Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/VIB.2ACE/44 Message Board Post: I sent the following message to their help desk and got the reply posted just below. Clearly whoever staffs the help desk doesn't have a clue what to look for....but then am I crazy? I could not find Census information there for Sibley in 1870....they may have copied the microfilm exactly as they received it from NARA, but was the microfilm correct.? Bad enough that 1890 doesn't exist, but not to have 1870 also....that becomes a major loss. I would appreciate help/clarification....Karen ...................................................................... Description: My primary research area is Sibley County Minnesota When I went to the 1870 Census, Sibley County, Minnesota what I found was death and agricultural information NOT the usual Census data....which is what I need! The whole County is missing for that Census Can this information please, please be posted .............................................................................. THEIR Reply: Thank you for your email. We have looked at the images you indicated and it appears that we have copied the information exactly as it was found in the microfilm that was sent from the NARA. If you look at image #3 you will notice that there are two pages displayed from the same book, the page on the left indicates that it is a Census Report form and the page on the right indicates that it is an agriculture form. If you have information that indicates there are missing pages, please send us that information and we will look into the issue further. If there is anything else we can assist you with, please let us know.

    3. Since you posted on the Sibley County, MN, site I am wondering if your Gray ancestors may include Conrad Cray, born October 5, 1831, in Pennsylvania or his son, Lewis N. W. Gray born on November 9, 1856, in Delaware County, MN. This family came to Ottawa, LeSueur County, MN, in 1856. 3. Hello veterans and newbies of the rootsweb. There are some really great folks who are willing to help just for the asking. I, myself do Volunteer research at Andersonville Civil War Prison in Andersonville Georgia. There are Any research I do is absolutely at NO cost and I am willing to do what I can. There are 259 prisoners on record from the state of Minnesota and more than 100 who died here, I thought I would send my offer. I feel the need to say I am not in anyway trying to focus on the horrors of Andersonville compared to any POW camp in the north ..( i.e.Elmira ) or any others and do not wish to stir up arguments on this site. My focus is dedicated to ALL of those held prisoner during this war , on both sides as well as all Americans who gave their freedoms for those that we enjoy today.. I just happen to be near Andersonville so this is where I do my work Here are my sources of research. There are 2 online databases to do lookups.....One by name...one by Company and Regiment. I also have a copy of the Dorence Atwater Death list which has the names and grave numbers of 12960 graves with only 460 marked as " UNKNOWN " This along with a CD I have which contains 34,000 names of the 45,000 who were imprisoned there which helps me find prisoner records because of misspellings of the names or alternate names. I visit the prison site every couple of weeks and have access to the onsite databases as well as the physical files. I would like to let you know of another service I offer which is to take photos of graves for a small fee. Please do not consider this spam as my research offer is FREE for the asking and will be posted on this county site only once so as not to irritate subscribers. If there is anything I can do in helping your research at Andersonville, please just ask. 3. I have been working on our family history for over 25 years. I have collected some informatioin on Benjamin Franklin Young (born 1829 in PA) & his family who came to Henderson Township, Sibley County, MN, in about 1855. I was quite surprised to learn this past winter that his Sister, Henrietta Eleanor, came to Henderson Township at the same time. Henrietta married Matthew John Breidenthal on September 21, 1841, in PA. Three of their children were born in Henderson Township: John William Breidenthal on June 22, 1857; Emory Harrrison Breidenthal on January 21, 1860; and Charles Matthew Breidenthal on June 10, 1862. What information has been left behind in Sibley County on Breidenthal family members? These three children had an older sister, Henrietta Eleanor Breidenthal who married a Dolson. Their daughter, Emma J. Dolson was born in Minnesota in about 1869. Any information on this family would be greatly appreciated. MaryLu in West Central Minnesota

My parents used to take us up there and get a ride on the train. Mr. Johnson had a coffee can (as I recall) hanging on a tree and donations were accepted for the rides. Always wondered what happened to the train. My father took movies of the activity and I was wondering if any of Mr. Johnson's family would be interested in video copies. No cost unless they want to supply the tape. I just like to see people enjoy something and someone from their past.

    3. Hello to all, I am trying to find any and all information on the family of ANTHONY WALSH, b. Nov. 1823 in Ireland, and according to census records, arrived in the US abt. 1843. He married HANNAH MCANDREW abt. 1858. She was born in Ireland in August, 1841 and came to the US in abt. 1851. They had eleven children, ten who survived to adulthood. Their names were; John, Bridget, Mary, Maggie, Joseph, Elizabeth, Ellen, James, William (died young), Susan and William A.. According to a court record in Macoupin County, IL dated Oct. 19, 1860, Anthony made oath in the district court of Sibley County, MN, July 1, 1857, that it was his intention to become a US Citizen. Anthony, Hannah and John appeared in the 1860 Federal Census, Macoupin County, IL along with their son John. I do not have access to the 1870 Federal Census for MN. They are not in the IL 1870 Federal Census. The family then appears in the 1880 Federal Census, Green Isle, Sibley County, MN, so Anthony, at least, returned to MN. I haven't been able to find Hannah, her parents, or their marriage record. Are there Naturalization records on file in Sibley County? Does anyone have access to marriage records for the county that would be willing to check for Anthony and Hannah? Also, two daughters, Bridget and Mary, were not listed with the family in the 1880 census. They became teachers. Would anyone know where they might have been attending school in MN during that time? This family moved to Big Stone City, SD before the 1900 Federal Census. Anthony died February 28, 1902 and I have not been able to find a date for Hannah's death. Any information or advice would be welcomed. Thank you in advance, Donna Price
