We have the past figured out quite well, and now all we need is a response on what she knows about her grand-mother Inga Christine, and perhaps we can connect the dots Here is a portion of the response I received from her this morning. "I have received so many messages and information from so many dear people that I am overwhelmed and am having a hard time believing this is real. My immediate family was always so small and isolated in a strange way. I will spend time going through Nany's (Grandmother Inga) few possessions left to me. Thank you and everyone who has been so helpful m find my extended family. Saundra Galliher of Oregon."

Also would this Julia have raised an adopted daughter named Inga who would have been born, Inga Christine Rogness whose birth mother died at her birth in 1891. We are waiting to find out just who Julia Gullick is who adopted Inga Christine in October of 1891. Your heritage goes back to the county (fylke) of Oppland in the Valdres area. The Rognes and the Sundem farms or gards as they call them in Norway are very close together. They likely came to America together as families, that often happened. We have so much information now to look through, and hopefully Saundra will bring us up-to-date on her family from her grandmother, Inga to the present day. We are getting responses from Norway, and from New York to California. We need a Sundem family history for sure---to find the Julie Gullick (maybe Gullicksen) who adopted Inga. Your trip to the courthouse may give us the answer. Thanks. Ardell

She was born Inga Christina Rogness on Sept.11, 1891. I believe somewhere in Southern Minnesota USA. I was told that her mother died in childbirth with her and the family suffered the loss of the father within the next few years. There were five or six daughters and two brothers whose names were Nels and Edward Rogness. The brothers remained unmarried and farmed in Luverne, Minnesota until their deaths in the 1970's. All I know about my grandmother is that she was adopted by a woman whose name was Julia Gullick. My great-grandparents emigrated from Norway, but I do not know their names and the location in Norway where they came from. Is there anyway to research this, I an interested in finding my Norwegian family members, Thank you, Saundra Galliher."

Dear Listmembers, The old German newspaper "Ostfriesische Nachrichten" was published by Pastor L. Hündling [Huendling} in 1882 in Iowa as a connecting paper between the people in the new American settlements and the old homeland with news and events in Ostfriesland and the "New World". Later you could find this newspaper all over the U.S. and Ostfriesland. For the period between 1882 and 1915 the issues were microfilmed around 20 - 30 years ago. According to a descendant of Pastor Huendling about 10 years ago, most of the issues between 1916 and 1971 got lost on the way to a processing center to be microfilmed. Besides Rev. Kenneth DeWall and others, who published in the past some indexes of (only) obituaries, we started in 1997 reading each newspaper for 1882 - 1915 and 1916 - 1971 (single issues) from the front to the back and taking all of the personal data in obituaries and local news into computer files. We added also interesting stories about the events in the New World - especially for the German readers -. So far we have listed 10,300 names of deceased between 1882 and 1915 plus 12,300 names of relatives, and until 1971 only 2,000 deceased / 5,000 relatives. Now we are looking for issues of this newspaper between 1916 and 1971. The undersigned would appreciate your answer if you have access to those issues. We have the microfilms from Crest Information Technologies and Heritage Crest, both in Cedar Rapids, IA. Most of the single issues after 1916 are scattered all over the U.S. and Germany. We guess, maybe finding them in the attics, etc. of old East Frisian settlements in the States. Thank you very much in advance for your help in preserving the data. Sincerely, Hans-Georg Boyken Ostfriesland-Society of Iowa, Inc. [email protected]

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/RJB.2ACI/289 Message Board Post: I'm happy to announce a new project, the Minnesota Family Group Sheet (FGS) project. It's my privilege to be managing it, and I hope to be very busy adding family group sheets submitted by all of you. The URL for the page is http://www.rootsweb.com/~usfgs/minnesota/ I think you'll find the page easy to read and use, but if you have any questions or concerns, please let me know. The USFGS home page, http://www.rootsweb.com/~usfgs/ links to all the states that have a family group project. I hope you'll take advantage of this new project. Those of us who have been working to bring it to Minnesota are very excited about its possibilities. Any family group that lived in Minnesota, even for a short time, can be posted. THE ONLY MINNESOTA PERSON WHO CANNOT BE POSTED ARE THOSE WHO ARE LIVING. Each family group sheet provides space for basic information about father, mother, and children; so if you only know about one family unit, you know enough to put the information up. If you know more, you can add more family group sheets: the father's parents and siblings, the mother's parents and siblings, the children's spouses and children, and on and on. If you've traced the family on into Wisconson, Iowa, and the Dakotas, you can post your group sheet in those states as well as Minnesota. But just one family sheet in one state can be enough to make new and exciting connections. We've prepared the pages and forms, added search engines and links, and now it's in your hands. Send in your family group sheets. One a day, ten a day, one a week, whatever works for you. Tell your fellow researchers about the site. Talk about it at your next genealogical society meeting. Mention it in your emails. The more people hear about the site, the more contributions we're likely to get; and the more contributions we receive, the more valuable the project is going to be in helping you make family connections. I'll be waiting for your family to turn up in my mailbox!
