I have added the 1870 census to the Rock County webpage. There is an all-name index as well as images of the census pages (there were only four). I have also the farm schedule for that year, image only. Visit the site at: _http://www.rootsweb.com/~mnrock2/_ (http://www.rootsweb.com/~mnrock2/) Thanks, Sheryl
Hi, I'm Sheryl McClure and I am building an "American History and Genealogy Project" site for Rock County. There is not a lot of data on the site yet, but I plan on adding resources on a weekly basis. I also have websites for Cottonwood and Watonwan counties. If you have any pictures, family histories, documents, plat maps, etc., pertaining to Rock County and would like to share with other researchers, I would be happy to place it on the site. If you have Rock County publications from which you would be willing to do look-ups for other I would appreciate that, too. Please visit the page at: _http://www.rootsweb.com/~mnrock2/_ (http://www.rootsweb.com/~mnrock2/) If you also want to visit my other websites, click on the Minnesota AHGP logo at the Rock County site to go to the state page, and then click on "Counties". The AHGP is a group of independent websites dedicated to providing free and useful genealogical resources on the net. Please visit my new Rock County site and let me know what you think. I am in the process of transcribing bios from the 1911 history book, but so far have only 30 of 400+ biographies. If you want a biography in the index that has not yet been transcribed, let me know and I will send it to you, as well as put it on the site. Another feature of the site is the 1900 census--no index yet, but all of the pages for Rock County are on the website.
Thanks for the tips Claudia !! Chad
I have recently done some research in Magnolia, Rock County, MN and have found the best information in the paper from Adrian which is in Nobles County, MN but is closer to Magnolia Township. You might also try the papers from Luverne which is a larger city in Rock County. (The local paper in Adrian had lots of 'local chit chat' in the column for Magnolia.) I found the obituary that I was looking for at the Minnesota Historical Society in St. Paul. They have a good collection of papers from MN and nearby cities. Claudia
I have a correction concerning the Thomas H. Bonnett that I am looking for. I have his obituary, it's one of those "former resident" type of obituaries, and it has him listed as dying in Magnolia, Rock, Minnesota. Is it possible to find a copy of his obit in Magnolia so that I can find out the name (hopefully) of his wife and children? Thank you Chad E. Goodrich [email protected]

Hello, I am hoping someone in or from Rock Co. would have some knowledge of the Iver Knutsen Wangen family that lived around Hills, MN back in the 1900-1910s. Any information will be greatly appreciated. WI Ron
The following is a WONDERFUL site, and would be most useful in researching old documents! Thanks to all involved in this! ~~~~~~~~~Original Message~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Von Stachon recently transcribed about 600 court records, deeds and wills for several counties in Virginia. She made images of many of the common words found in these old documents, and has prepared a table showing the image of the handwriting with the transcribed word. This table may be found at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/special/oldenglish/oldenglish.htm Feel free to pass this link on in your mail lists, or use the link as you wish. Mike

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/RJB.2ACI/93.2.1.4 Message Board Post: It has been a long research for Saundra Galliher of Oregon, who is very likely the ggggrandaughter of Sigri Sundem and Andrew Rogness of Rock County. Records show that her grandmother, Inga Christine was the daughter of Randine Rogness, the eldest child of Rogness. Randine died in childbirth and Inga Christine was adopted by Julia Knutson and Gustaveus Gullick, both born in Wisconsin. They had no children of their own, only an adopted Inga. They were found in Nobles County, Minnesota. Inga moved west in about 1915. She married Chester Joslin in Woodburn, Oregon, where she continued her life alone after Chester disappeared. They had one son, Walt and one daughter, June. Saundra is the daughter of June, who now resides in a nursing home. Walt has died in 1955 and left three sons, all of them are Rogness/Sundem Kin. Saundra is a single mom with a daughter, Deidre. They live in Oregon. Her grandmother passed away, and records show that Julia had lived in Oregon also, and is buri! ed there. Gus died in Nobles County in 1912, shortly before Inga left home for probably Washington State first and then Oregon. If you have a family connection to Saundra, we encourage you to contact her--she is Family and she needs Family Love and Concern--she longs for it. Her address again is [email protected] What a Christmas this could be for the Rogness/Sundem Family wherever they are throughout the country!

My name is plastered all over the Rock County Queries at this time, but I must share the message from Saundra Galliher, the granddaughter of the late Inga Christine Rogness, born in Hills on October 12, 1891. This is a response from Saunddre as a reply to some questions that I sent to her as it is time to connect the dots between the past and the present. You all may be part of the future. Saundra: "I have received so many messages and information from so many dear people that I am overwhelmed and am having a hard time believing that it is real. My immediate family was always so small and isolated in a strange way. I will spend some time sorting through Nany's (Grandmother Inga) few possessions left to me. Again, thank you and everyone who has been so helpful in helping me find my extended family."--Saundra Gallliher of Oregon My personal thanks to all of you "Rockers" in Minnesota; the family members from coast to coast; the people from Valdres, Norway; and the Tronder and Valdres Listers, especially to Jean Marthaler. Margit Bakke and Be Gunelson of Minnesota. You see, I am only the "Pusher" and let me tell you, this rock was a heavy load! Will inform you all in the final results. Ardell Drube
