The obit states that Christie and her husband Gunder and a son are buried at the Ullensvang Cemetery. Rev. H. M. Solem was the officiant. My next question is regarding the location of the Ullensvang Church and Cemetery. WHERE is this? I have checked my list of Rock County Cemeteries, and there are some possibilities, but nothing definite. I have also read through the church narratives in the Garretson 1989 Centennial book, but this only leaves me more confused. West Palisades, Palisades, East Palisades - very hard to sort out if one is not from the area. I have to admit that I am totally befuddled. I would so very much appreciate it if someone could offer a simple answer and directions to the Ullensvang Cemetery. Thanks so much! In my county, we are fortunate to have transcribed lists for every cemetery which give the name and location of all known burials. I am having difficulty finding ancestors Gunder and Kristie (Klungsness) Gunderson who are thought to be buried in Rock County, MN. Gunder changed his surname from Klungsness to Gunderson, but this was not likely done in any "official" way. I am continuing to check with area churches for records also. Gunder died in 1899? and Kristine in 1914? Its possible that the couple may have been buried in South Dakota given the promimity. Thanks! Sprague (maiden name Engel)... have you found anything for Minna (Engel) Sprague? I am researching Carl & Sophia Engel family from Rock Co, MN, which also includes names you have mentioned ... Carl, Robert and Freddie, also Martha. The 1900 census for Battle Plain, Rock County, MN has the following Engel family who immigrated to the US from Germany (Mecklenberg I think) in 1885: Carl - May 1848 Germany (married 27 years) Sophia - Jul 1850 Germany (5 children & 5 living) Martha - Nov 1876 Germany Carl - Oct 1878 Germany Robert John - Oct 1881 Germany Freddie R. - 1887 I'm wondering if your Minna was perhaps the earliest child, already married by 1900. If I have the correct family, in 1908 Sheridan,Poweshiek Co, Iowa Robert John Engel married Verna A. Spire. The 1910 census has Robert John and Verna Engel living in Denver, Rock Co, MN, and Robert's parents & youngest brother are living in Hardwick, Rock Co, MN. Robert John & Verna Engel's children include Ansel R., Selma Verna, Emmett Lester, and Lois Sylvia. It is said that sometime after 1930 Robert John Engel left his family and was never heard from again. Selma Verna Engel married Gerald Cecil Montgomery in 1940 in Brookings Co, SD ... the family of my research. I find a Minna S. & George A. Sprague living in Dallas Texas in the 1910-1930 censuses with children George, Mortimer, Elizabeth, Wilma, Howard, John, Natalie & Charles. 3. There is an East and West Palisade Cemetery. There used to be an East and West Palisade Church also, but they merged earlier in the 1900s--I'm not sure about the date but could find it for you if needed. The west Palisade cemetery is about 1 1/2 miles west of the church you described. My husband's family have been members of the church probably since it's beginning. We buried his mother in the East Palisade Cemetery last May, the last of the family line with membership at this time. The church also keeps a small "family cemetery" in a farm field about a mile east of the church. If you have further questions I will be happy to answer them. ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, March 05, 2007 11:00 PM Subject: MNROCK Digest, Vol 2, Issue 2 > > > Today's Topics: > > 1.
