Your information is a great help, and certainly a good start to tracking down the history of Samuel and Rachel. Thanks again for sharing. How is the weather out your way? This is a long weekend for us in Ontario and my plans were to spend the time outside gardening and planting. It is just too cold! In fact we had a few very light snow flurries yesterday! Unheard of this time of year. But there was frost on the roof tops, so plants just won't stand this weather. It's going to be a late Spring. Thanks again Paul Rose

Great insight into his background and history. He is certainly the gentleman I was looking for. The biography adds a nice bit of history to the family story. I'm not sure Ruth where you are located and whether you actually live in Luverne. I was wondering where I might right to find out if Samuel and Rachel are buried in Luverne, and how I might find out their date of death/burial particulars? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks again Ruth for your sharing of information. Paul Rose

What I have is a county history/bio book and your Samuel is in it. Here's what's written. The date in parens is when he came to Rock Co.: S. W. Rose (1888) has been a resident of Luverne since 1888, the year in which he attained his majority. In company with D. A. Hulett and S. B. Hulett he is interested in the West Side Auto company, a thiriving concern which was organized in September, 1910, and which recently moved into its new and substantial cement block home on Main street. The firm is actively engaged in the sale and repair of automobiles and in the conduct of an up-to-the[-minutes auto livery. They are local agents for the wll known E. M. F. and Flanders "20" cars. The parents of our subject were Martin and Barbara ROse, both natives of Germany who came to this country before their marriage. It was in the early forties, before the railroads began to traverse the state to any extent, that Martin Rose settled in Henry County, Ilinois. At that early day the hardy pioneers were at great disadvantages in the placing of products of the farm. Hogs and produce were hauled by ox team a distance of nearly! 200 miles to market at Chicago, then an unpretentious community. Mr. Rose lived continuously nearly sixty years on the land he filed claim to as a young man. He died in 1900 at the age of eighty-five years. His wife survived him six years and was seventy-eight years old at the time of her decease. It was on the old farm in Henry county, Illinois, on October 21 1867, that S. W. Rose of this review was born. He grew to manhood on the ome place, and it was from there that he moved direct to Luverne in the year already mentioned. For a number of years our subject was engaged as local agenet for several leading machinery and supply houses. At present he represents the interest of the Avery Manufacturing Co., manufacturers of threshing machinery, in Rock county. Mr. Rose has achieved success in his cosen calling, entirely by his own unaided efforts, and has won for himself a respected position in the city which has long been the scene of his activities. Fraternally he is! a Modern Woodman. In Luverne, on December 23, 1896, S. W. Rose was united in marriage to Rachael Cripps. Mrs. Rose is a native of Michigan. Paul - hope you can gleen some new info from this bio. Ruth

It is only a husband and wife, I don't believe there were any children to the marriage. I only know the following: Rose, Samuel (also appears in 1920 census as Raskshum) born about 1867 in Illinois of German ancestry). Rose, Rachel (born Rachel Cripps), born August 29, 1873 in Michigan of English/Irish ancestry. They appear in the 1900, 1910, and 1920 census living at Luverne City where they farmed. Would appreciate knowing any further particulars, especially date of death, burial, etc. If you have any information in your biography or can steer me in a direction for further information, I would appreciate your help. Thanks Paul Rose Ontario, Canada

Clara Skyberg was married to Martin Aaker. When I fiirst became aware of things they were living on 80 acres of land in the NW corner of section 3 in Martin Township Minnesota. My parents farm ajoined their farm on the east side. They later moved to Hills, MN. They had two children (boys). Marvin was the oldest son. I saw Marvin and his wife this last March durnig a visit to the Hills area. They presently live in the Tuff Memoial Home in Hills, Minnesota. I assume he is about 80 years old. I don't know if Marvin and his wife had any children. The second son (youngest) was Russell. Russell passed away about 10 years ago from heart condition as I recall. Russell was likely born about 1926 as I know he is about 7 years older than I. Russell and I attended District 19 country school together. He was in the 8th grade and I was in the first grade. He married Kathryn Thompson also of Martin Township. She was the daughter of Mr and Mrs Arthur Thompson. They had children but I don't know how many. She now lives in Sioux Falls, SD. Matilda Skyberg married Ole Bjerk Jr.. He was one of 23 children and I think he was the oldest son of Ole Bjerk. They moved onto the 80 acres after Martin and Clara moved to Hills, MN. Ole and Matilda had 4 children (all girls). LaVonne, Gladys, Olive and ?. LaVonne is the oldest and is married to Cornie VerHey and lives in Beaver Creek, MN. Gladys is a widow and lives in Brandon, SD. Olive is married and lives in Indiana (?). Olive is the youngest and was born in 1931 or 1932. My aunt Edna Bjerk Lien was a sister-in-law to Matilda. I have no knowledge of John Skyberg other than knowing he existed.
I would appreciate a lookup of the following marriages in Rock County: John Skyberg b:1885 Matilda Skyberg b: 1890 Clara Skyberg b: 1892 m. Martin Aaker All but Matilda were likely married prior to 1920; she was living at home with her parents in 1920 census. I'm interested in who they married and when. Thanks, Gene Huffman Glenmoore, PA
Is there anything about Ole (b.Nov 1851) & Margrete (b. May 1855) Skyberg who lived in Martin Twp. Rock Co., MN? He immigrated in 1881 and she followed with their daughter, Anna, and a spinning wheel in 1882. They later had 4 additional children: John, Mathilda O., Clara B. and Emma.
