Dear List, Al Dawson, [email protected], new poster. I have a photograph of a family member with what looks like the photographer's imprint of R. A. Leists, Boston Gallery, 195 East Seventh Street, St. Paul, Min. I can send it as an attachment to anyone assisting in the dating. I have a guess of c. 1886 due to family migration data. Hi Al, I checked the St Paul city directories. Hopefully this gives you a good lead: JH Lucas - Photographer was located at 195 e 7th st in 1886. The person you are inquiring about is actually first listed in the 1887-1888 directory under the name RA Lisk, 195 e 7th st (directory had a typo in his name is all) 1890-91 RA Leisk, 195 e 7th st Robert A Leisk - lives at same address as work 1895 listed on 195 e 7th 1896, 1897 and 1898 listed at 93 e 7th st 1899 listed at 192 Concord 1900 - not listed at all - Leisk is not listed living in St Paul and there is no listing for a photography gallery with him as a photographer. soooo, you can at least date the photo between 1887 to 1895. There is no listing for a Boston Gallery in the directories. At least in these timeframes. another way to check is to search in the city directories for the name of your family member. You may be able to pinpoint the date closer if your family was only here over a specific year in that timeframe or over a couple of years in the time frame. You can do this at the downtown Central library. 2nd floor. They have city directories. The Ramsey County Historical Society will copy city directory pages for you for 25 cents a page plus mailing just contact them at www.rchs.com otherwise there may be people on this list that you can ask - I don't know what they charge. good luck, Jana Armstead -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] To: [email protected] Sent: Thu, 29 Mar 2007 6:19 AM Subject: [MNRAMSEY] Photographer in St. Paul Dear List, Al Dawson, [email protected], new poster. Dear Jana, This is wonderful! Thank you! The only known link Anna [who lived in Detroit, then Chicago (married there) and later San Diego] had with the Twin Cities was that her sister Margaret, and brother-in-law, Charles E.
