Thanks Kate for your suggestions, I have been trying to contact VA all morning, actually trying to get a real person on the phone, leaving messages didn't help. I'm very persistent, in fact, one response I received said for me to contact my representative or senator, and I will if I need to go that far. Kenneth Brandl's parents are deceased, the remaining family was so young when this happened that they don't recall anything. Last week was the anniversary of his death and my husband's birthday on the same date so I am also trying to help him get the information. Thanks Betty [email protected] wrote: 1. Have you asked Ramsey Co.? Even if they didn't issue a death cert for him they might have other paperwork re bringing him back here. 2. Have you asked the Army where the Death Cert. would have been issued? They could probably tell you the rules re such deaths. 3. I'm no expert, but I'm sure that there are/were reports on his death prepared by the army. There might also be service records, etc., though I know that a fire at the National Archives destroyed many records from about that time period. I traced a relative who died in a plane collision over England in 1943. There was a report prepared on the crash of which I hope to get a copy. By cruising the Internet I found a guy who copies files of reports like this for researchers. I am deferring the expense right now, but his charge was about $25 a few years ago. --my point is that you might find such reports available without going to a major archive.
