He attended Iowa State University and later wanted to join the United States Air Force but he developed leukemia. He later attended the University of Minnesota where after he proclaimed himself cured of leukemia, he began taking private flying lessons. Forshay later joined the parachute act, the 'Flying Elvises' a group of 10 people who dressed up in Elvis Presley clothes and jumped out of airplanes.
