An old photo of my grandfather, Frank X Schneider, in an antique frame was sold to an antique store in the West 7th area, probably near Seven corners, around 1944. The photo was the only one of my grandfather when he was young and I would love to find it. I thought I would mention it on the list on the outside chance someone may have kept the picture when they bought the frame. Send any information to my email address [email protected] Thanks. Kathy

Does that mean there were 5 year censuses like Illinois? Does anyone know the E-mail for the Historical Society? We have found some information that states that John Fletcher Williams left some of his papers to the Society. Yes, there were decennial censuses taken by the State of MN, beginning in 1865 with the last taken in 1905. Most are unindexed. My research note on the state census can be found at http://www.parkbooks.com/Html/res_scen.html The MN Historical Society web pages are at http://www.mnhs.org/ There are links from that page to the collections catalogs, death and birth certificate indexes as well as to their research service. Connie, there was a MN census in 1895, but I don't believe it is indexed. I have one set of Ramsey pages from 1895 and it is listed by Ward. When I found my family in 1895 at the Minnesota Historical Society, I recall ploughing through the film sequentially. Eventually, I came to the correct neighborhood. IIRC, they do have large maps that indicate the Ward boundaries, meaning it is best to know where they lived. Bart

Sorry list. Don't know where my brains went, guess it would have been nice of me to state the name of my Great Grandfather in the prior message! The name was Oliver Walsh. Sorry for the slip-up. Hi List, Does anyone know if there was an 1895 State census taken of Ramsey County, Minnesota? According to the 1900 Federal census for St. Paul, Ramsey County, MN my Great Grandfather immigrated from Canada ten years prior and would like to know if St.Paul was the place where he was at in 1895. Also whether or not he was with his Step-Father and Mother ( Thomas A. Shirley and Mina his wife) in 1895 as he was in 1900. Thanks, Connie Westcott --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? I have found a Hannah Knutson who passed away 12-21-1915 in Ramsey, MN Can someone find an obit for her? Am wondering if this is my Hanna who came from Norway in 1872 with parents & siblings to Waterville, IA. In the census for 1880 Hanna is gone. In her father's obit (Hans Hanseen Svebakken) 1909 she is Mrs. Knutson from MN. Any help is appreciated THANKS AdaMarie
Would someone look up and copy the 1890-1895 entries for the City directory for Minnie Shaw ( nee Tompkins) ? I don't know the first name of her husband. Thanks Marita in Ca.
I am wondering if anyone can tell me if there were city directories issued for St. Paul MN between 1912 and 1918? I am hoping to find an entry for Clemens Debach and/or Nicolaus Servatius to verify their place of residence in ST. Paul. thank you!

General information -- There are at least four ways to get obituaries from the St. Paul paper, after you've done the kind of homework Jody did: 1. You can ask MHS staff to look for it for you, as part of placing your order for the death certificate. (As a volunteer there, I can attest that they do a very thorough job of searching! Every now and again, we discuss some of those hard-to-find ones.) 2. The MnRamsey site has a swap page, and includes people who are willing to do lookups in exchange for research in your libraries or a fee. It can be found at http://www.parkbooks.com/MnGenWeb/swap.html 3. You can go to your local public library and ask them to get the newspaper you want on interlibrary loan, and look for the obituary yourself. They can range from brief death listings giving only time and location of services, to full blown news stories for public figures. The St. Paul newspapers have charged for obituaries for a long time, making them 'advertising.' 4. The MnRamsey mailing list tends to get a lot more traffic than the query pages do -- making it a great place to ask about your sticky research questions. And there are quite a few experts and sharers who lurk on this list -- people who find a name or location or topic of interest and will therefore fit small requests such as this one into their research trip. I'm sure there are more methods too, but I'm still on my first cup of coffee this morning! Hi -- Those "additions" are the legal description of property. There will be an address or 3 that corresponds to those legals. I checked the Ramsey county website, but their property search online doesn't give the option to search on legal descriptions (at least not the free version -- I don't know if it's in the RRInfo paid version there). Perhaps someone on the list has access to Ramsey county property records and could provide the address to those parcels? ~ Maureen Smith [email protected] On 5 Apr 2005, Mary Bakeman wrote: > Can anyone help Carmen?
