Though the first marriages recorded took place in 1850, note that MN did not require any vital records until 1870 -- so there may be gaps in the governmental records before that, and you may have to turn to church records. At this point, MHS does not have these records, though there is talk about acquiring them. We have also published some in the MN Genealogical Journal, #1-7 and 9-11. MGJ:1-6 are indexed completely and available for sale in three volumes, the others are not. Mary Mary Bakeman [email protected] Park Genealogical Books http://www.parkbooks.com

    2. Kathleen Sigdestad
    3. I am searching for any descendants of my grandfather's brothers. My grandfather was Frank Xavier Schneider, born 1861 in Baden. He immigrated to the US 1879-1881 with two brothers named Andrew and Louis. He settled in St. Paul, MN and married Mary Florian in 1889. Frank and his brothers had a financial dispute and severed relations. Andrew and Louis were said to have left the area. If anyone on the list has an Andrew or Louis Schneider from Baden in their family tree and think there could be a connection, I would appreciate hearing from you. My email is [email protected] I am trying to establish a birthplace in Baden. Thank you. Kathy

    3. Can anyone do a lookup for Jo? The information Jo seeks is often found on a death certificate -- available at the MN Historical Society library, or on microfilm through your local public library on Interlibrary Loan from the Minnesota Historical Society. The St Paul newspapers have long charged for death notices/obituaries, unless the person is newsworthy (business owner, prominent in some way, dies in an accident, etc.). 3. Hello this site has birth and death indexes for Minnesota and there are 5 births and many deaths for the name of Kanthack, including Sophie. http://people.mnhs.org/bci/ I would think her death registration information might list maiden name, place of birth, etc. Do you know what religion she was - there are church records that may help you if you knew what religion. Does the write up mention what church she was buried out of? You could track down the church records. Your father (Edward Kamthack) shows up on the Minnesota death index as being born in 1914. How old was Sofie when she died? On the 1900 census if you can find her there would be a lot of information available that might help you. I don't have access to that though. from this 1880 census is the following family http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/frameset_search.asp William KANTHAK Self M Male W 55 RUSSIA Laborer RUSSIA RUSSIA Mary F.
