    2. You'll probably want to stay at the Comfort Inn in East Grand Forks, MN or one of the hotel chains in Grand Forks, ND. It's just across the Red River. Be sure you check out the Special Collections Library on the 4th floor at the University of North Dakota. It's the best Norweigian genealogy research library in America. Ask for Sandy... she's the Norweigian expert... also an expert on Polk Co., MN research. Another person to contact is Janet Smith, President of the Minnkota Genealogical Society... She'll direct you in the right direction. <jehsmith@yahoo.com> Carolyn

    3. Posted on: Polk County Queries Board URL: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Mn/Polk?read=268 Surname: Johnson ------------------------- I'm seeking more precise info on my grandmother Effie Lily Johnson born 8/25/1894 in Anoka, Polk County. Her father's name was John A. Johnson (dob unknown, somewhere in Sweden) Her mother's first name was Josephine, but her maiden name is unknown. (dob unknown, somewhere in Sweden) They were probably married in Muskegon, MI, and both died there. I don't know how long they lived in Polk County. Nor do I know if her 2 brothers, George and Ludwig, were born there. At the very least, does anyone know where her birth certificate is held? I can't figure that out from the web sources I've tried. She does not appear in the LDS online resources. thanks for your help--a novice, Anne Johnson Johnston

    3. Hi Wayne, Yes, East Grand Forks is in Polk County. The address is: Polk County Court House, Crookston, MN, 56716, or at least that's what it was in 1995! Grand Forks is in Grand Forks County, and am sure you can send it to the County Court House there. You might also try the North Dakota Department of Health, 600 E. Boulevard Avenue, Bismarck, ND, 58505-0200. Have you tried the gen web sites for these counties? They are very good, and will give lots of info about the recording of birthdates, cost of certificates, etc. Good luck, hope you find the birthplace!
