Posted on: Polk County Queries Board URL: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Mn/Polk?read=274 Surname: Kearns ------------------------- I am looking for info. on Joseph Kearns. He was born in Ireland and lived a good portion of his life in Crawford Co., PA. He had a son Henry and I think this is who he lived with in Crookston in the very early 1900's. Joseph died March 14, 1907 as an old man. If anyone has access to the 1900's for this town I would be intesting in knowing what the information is. I would love to find some relatives. I don't think that that Henry Kearns had any children, but I am not certain on this.

Madeline, The skeeters may not even be a problem this year. It is so dry. I've seen only 2 mosquitoes this season. Nice working in the yard. Polk County Journal, 214 Mill St., 218-945-6120 Fertile Library, 212 Mill St N, 218-945-6137 Fertile City Office, 218-945-3136 I've been to the newspaper office. Was a few years back. The lady was very kind and I looked at papers all day at a high counter in the back room. You do have to request papers and she will bring them up from the basement. They had some very old issues. I missed being there when the library was open. The City Office ma;y be able to give you some recommendations, too. Carol ---------- > From: J. I don't know where your town is in Minnesota but I will tell you the people in Minnesota are GREAT! I'll be in MN doing genealogy research next week. I have met (over the net) a wonderful lady that has been doing a lot of the grunt work for me. She has found the cemetery where my father in law is buried and made arraignments for me to visit areas of importance in my research. I hope you enjoy your trip and enjoy the sites. Minnesota is beautiful and the people are wonderful. Barbara in Kansas

I'm just going to jump in here.... I have a lot of family from the Fertile area and I sort of grew up there and still visit my remaining relatives yearly. So if there is anything that I can help you with as far as cemeterys and cool places to see let me know. Hi All, I too am planning a short trip to Polk County this summer, mainly to visit an elderly uncle, my grandparents old homestead, and also gravesites of my relatives. I would really like to locate some of the older issues of the newspaper that served Gully, Mn. in the timeframe 1900 - 1940. I know there was a Gully newspaper at one time, and later I think the Gonvick paper had news from the Gully area. I'm wondering if any of these papers are in archives somewhere. They served such small areas (esp. the Gully Newspaper) I don't know if any are in existance anymore. Anyone out there know? Perhaps one of the current newspapers took over the old ones and archived them? (I should be so lucky!). I'm especially interested in the 1920's and 30's. I admit I haven't done my research at the library or online yet but just thought I'd check quickly before I do to ssee if anyone knows offhand where they might be stored. Thanks much! Janet from Arizona.

Another place that is a good place to start is the Polk County Historical Society, Post Office Box 214, Crookston Mn 56716. They have listings of the various cemeteries in the county, and some years back they canvased the cemeteries (I think) for those buried in them. If you write them I think they can find the names you are searching for in the Fertile cemeteries. They found some names for me previously so it is worth a try.
