I asked around in Fertile, but the people I talked to didn't know where it was. I appreciate your response and your kind directions, and will be visiting the cemetery the next time I am in Polk County. Since your grandfather was Ole Pederson, is your father Ellsworth Pederson? I am Vilda Syverson's grand-niece, her brother Albert's granddaughter. My father is Ordean Syverson. I visited Ole and Vilda's place as a child--she died when I was 18. I never met Viola, my first cousin once removed, as she died when I was too small, but my dad speaks highly of her. I would like to correspond with you regarding Ole Pederson if you are interested. I have some pictures of Ole I would like to share as well. My email is jsyverson@hotbot.com.

I was born and raised in East Grand Forks, so know the area. It took me three tries just now to log-on to the Polk web site, so there might be something happening there. If you have questions, email me directly. You could try the MN Historical Society at www.mnhs.corg. They have two interesting books: Pictorial Atlas of Polk County, Title Atlas Company, and Compendium of History and Biography of Polk County by R.I. Holcombe. My map shows Lessor Township being just north of McIntosh, which is east of Crookston, the county seat, along U.S. Hiway 2.

For homestead records, go to www.blm.gov However, the latter will only work if your ancestor purchased the land from the U.S. government under the Homestead Act. Posted on: Polk County Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Mn/Polk/403 Surname: Horte ------------------------- In the states, the County Recorder might not have the location of the graves. Death certificates usually do not have that data. If you know the church in Nielsville (note spelling), try contacting them first. Typically, the country churches had their own cemeteries. Shelly, MN, is about 5 miles south of Nielsville, but is in Norman County, which is probably why you are having some difficulty. For the address of the county offices, do a yellow pages search for "Polk County" (as the business) in Crookston, MN. You can also do a category yellow pages search under "churches" for both Nielsville and Shelly. You will probably find the graves that way. Did you try writing the Minnesota Public Health Department for copies of the death certificates?
Posted on: Polk County Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Mn/Polk/402 Surname: Horte ------------------------- Hi! again, I have managed to track some of my husband elusive relations. Now I do need more help! I am wanting to find someone who could actually contact the "District Recorder", of Polk County.. I think it would be at Crookston, and find out where the graves of Marie, Anton and Christen Andreasson Horte are . The deaths were at Neilsvill, MN. Also ask about the date of death in Shelly, MN. of Carl Horte( I am told that he died between 1902 -1948)I understand that he was likely buried from the Shelly Lutheran Church, at Shelly, MN. I live in northern Alberta, Canada, and it is to far for me to go to search. Many thanks, .........Norma
Hi, Julia must be the first wife of Napoleon. The Red Lake County Book doesn't mention her. Nap was married to Jeannette Gervais They were married in 1890. He died in 1928 and she in 1950. Both are buried in Red Lake Falls.
Hi, I believe I have a fairly complete listing of burials at Gentilly and do not see the name you are looking for.
