post submitted by [email protected] My great, great grandfather and grandmother lived in Taopi, Minn. before the turn of the century. He, Joseph Pautvein, came to America in 1852 (approx.) when he was 17 years old, doing many jobs in the next 20 years--fur-trader, RR, carpenter, and eventually married Margaret Kassel and settled in Taopi in Mower Co. I have alot of Margaret's genealogy but nothing about Joseph's parents or siblings. He was a farmer in Taopi with seven children. My Grandfather, Henry Pautvein, was his oldest child. He left France from Alscae Lorraine, but I don't know if that is where he was born. Would Mower County records have any accounting of his parents names or where he was born? I will be glad to share any information I have on these lines if you want them.
